Persuasive Peer Review Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Persuasive Peer Review - Assignment Example It also uses the claim of â€Å"common philosophy,† which does not automatically prove that the thesis is right. The thesis for me can be rewritten into: â€Å"Technology can help people become better parents, because it supports communication needs, it teaches children to be responsible, accountable and trustworthy, and it supports connectivity and family time.† The organization of the essay is clear, but better transitions can be made, where they are connected from one main point to another. Not all paragraphs are related to the thesis. The second paragraph, in particular, does not talk about the role of technology in better parenting, and it is more focused on the role of communication skills for parents. Each paragraph has one topic only and one topic sentence, but sometimes, the paragraphs are too long. Some sentences can be removed, when they no longer contribute to the claims of the writer. The major claims are not supported with outside evidence. The writer uses personal experiences and anecdotes only to support her claims. She should have used the sources she listed at the end of the paper to support her main points. The writer, nevertheless, responds to opposing views, such as concerns for young children having cellular phones and the impact of technology on quality family time. As for citation, MLA citation is not properly used. In-text citation is missing, and the works cited list is not completed and properly organized. The writing style is sometimes too informal, because of the use of contractions, and its excessive conversational style makes the paper less credible in proving its thesis. The paper is appropriate according to the instructions, because it has 6 pages, it is double-spaced, and it has a thesis at the end of the introduction. It also uses five outside sources. The introduction does not provide any hook and it does not end with a thesis. It provides background on some of the technologies used nowadays and some potential effects of

Reasons Why Parents Should Read Aloud with Children Essay Example for Free

Reasons Why Parents Should Read Aloud with Children Essay One of the greatest gifts that a parent can bestow upon a child is the gift of literacy. Reading is a wonderful pastime, and the key to unlocking many academic puzzles. Parents should read aloud to children as part of a regular routine, one that can be thoroughly enjoyed by both parties. Firstly, reading aloud to children poses the benefit of being quality time spent together. Parents need to have special time with their children, and reading to them is a great method for achieving this goal. Instead of plunking the children down in front of the television, sit them down on your lap and open up a book. As you begin to read to your children, marvel at their attention to detail, and use every opportunity to test their memory and knowledge. While reading, stop frequently and relate the story to an aspect of their everyday life. This will help them to see the correlation between themselves and their environment. While you are enjoying the quality time with your children as you read aloud, you will also be fostering a love of reading that transcends boundaries. Learning to love books at a young age will enhance the children’s desire to be an avid reader as they mature. A love of literature can take a child to unfathomable heights, allowing them to soar to faraway lands of make believe. Children that are read aloud to may use their creativity and imagination more often, building their different levels of intelligence. Being read aloud too can help them see the world, giving them an idea of their place in the world. Another great reason why parents should read aloud to children is to enhance their vocabulary skills. The parent should ensure that they read every word in a story verbatim, never glossing over words that they deem difficult. Children need to hear new words, and need to be explained to their meaning. This will boost their communicative skills. A child with a mastery of vocabulary will be able to orate and have himself or herself heard with a greater degree of efficiency than a counterpart saddled with a limited grasp of the language. When a parent reads aloud to their children, they are also teaching their children to read. As the pages turn, the children are intently watching, following every word on the page, learning that the words go from left to right and flow in a certain fashion. They will, through spoken osmosis, learn how to read on their own. The longer this continues, and with a great deal of frequency, the more proficient of a reader they will become. Parents also should read aloud to their children so that are heard enjoying the books, and the children. This bond will unite them, and the stories will also help them to learn things of importance. Books should be selected together, during regular visits to the local library or book store. This will give the child a sense of autonomy and ownership over the story, which may hold their attention for a longer period. Parents can help steer the children towards books that have strong morals, ethics, focus on manners and friendships, and interesting characters. Once the children begin to learn how to read, the roles can be reversed, and the children can become the readers while the parents become the attentive audience. This may give the children a jolt of confidence and self-esteem that will serve them well as they continue through the educational system. The only thing better than a good book is sharing it with a loved one. Nine Benefits for Parents Who Read Aloud Reading Aloud: 1. Creates bonding experience 2. Allows you to observe and share in your child’s interests. 3. Demonstrates your commitments to your child. 4. Provides an opportunity to model and transmit values. 5. Develops good communication skills. 6. Provide bibliotherapy* opportunities. 7. Gives children a chance to ask you questions. 8. Combats a passive, couch-potato, TV-viewing lifestyle. 9. Helps you build a storehouse of pleasant memories with your children. *Using stories and books to help Children deal with traumatic events such as death, divorce, loss of a pet, and adjusting to life-changing situations such as moving and entering school. Different people, cultures, and nations have a wide variety of expectations about how much privacy is entitled to or what constitutes an invasion of privacy. Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information. Personal privacy has been declining in the past year which is caused by today’s technological society. With the latest technology such as face scanners, data collecting, and highly advanced software’s, privacy can be compromised, which is exactly what is being done today and it is unconstitutionally intrusive. In particular The NSA or National Security Agency was reported to collect massive amounts of data from the citizens of the United States and many other foreign countries. This data was not obtained with the permission of the people but obtained in secrecy and the majority of the data that was collected was â€Å"phone metadata, or information about who you call, when you called them, where you called them, what kind of carrier you were using, and more† (Kelly 2). With this kind of information being obtained people’s lives can be perceived by ...

‘Popular’ Music

‘Popular music' is the broadest and as the name would suggest most popular genre of music today. The term ‘Popular Music' was first used in the 19th century but it is the twentieth century that has seen the most developments in popular music. , the technology it uses and the media it is conveyed in The start of ‘Pop Music' is generally thought to have been in the 1950's with the advent of Rock ‘n' Roll. This is when music was first really brought to a mass audience watching on television. By the end of the 1950's over half the population owned a television. Millions more than at the start of the decade. Popular bands were made ‘popular' because they were being brought to the masses. The 1960's saw a broadening in ‘popular music' with TV shows such as ‘Top of The Pops' showing a selection of hits from the top 40 of the singles chart. This use of the media brought most styles of music that were popular to a mass audience. Later in the 1970's and 80's pop magazines were introduced. Some such as ‘Smash Hits! were aimed at the younger early teen end of the market while others such as ‘NME' or ‘New Musical Express' were aimed at older more refined music fans to popular music. The late 1980's saw a flurry of new popular music magazines, many of which are still popular today, rock magazine ‘Kerrang! ‘ being a leading example. I believe that the 1990's has seen a ‘dumbing-down' of some magazines such as ‘Smash Hits! à ¢â‚¬Ëœ. Now aimed at an even younger possibly pre-teen audience it is little more than a promotional vehicle for the groups and artists represented in it's pages. The featured groups in these magazines are often from a new sub-genre that has developed from the 1980's to now and is known as the manufactured band. In recent years the idea of manufactured bands or artists has been embraced into the reality TV format with shows such as ‘Pop Idol' showing the development of a band or artist live on TV. I believe this innovation has been bad for music in general as the top 40 chart is now flooded with either reality TV winners, reality TV losers or artists who have gone through a similar process but have not been televised in doing so. In recent years music television has risen to the fore as a major part of an artist's success. When MTV was launched in the early 80's who could have thought that the music video would become the phenomenon it now is. Artists spend millions of pounds and hundreds of hours making sure their video is just right. In the early 21st century there are now over 20 music channels showing every thing from rock to rap, from classical to teen pop. However nowadays all artist's videos are so good that the music video seems to have gone full circle and now the music is more important again. In the pop music industry there have been thousands of innovations over the years but no genre has surpassed the sub genre of rap for innovative ideas. Originating from street corners where young black males would ‘battle' against each other using lyrics rap is now a multi-billion pound industry with the leading players earning vast fortunes. Rap has certainly come a long way since it's humble beginnings. The 1980's were a massive decade of innovation for rap, a genre that had begun in the 70's. the start of the 80's rappers were still using manual mixers to combine beats and mix tracks in the way that has become a hallmark of rap. By 1990 rappers were using digital mixers to blend beats more harmoniously. The result a more clear-cut sound that has perhaps made rap the music of the 90's. Pop music has come a long way since it begun in the 1950's. Technology and the media have perhaps had as larger part in pop music's success than the music itself. However I believe the media ha s become too involved nowadays by creating stars themselves while not playing other artist's music. After all ‘popular music' should be about the music not making things popular. However there is one dark cloud that looms over the organisations that run the music industry such as record labels and the media. The Internet. Technology has now come so far that music files can now be swapped over the Internet through such software such as ‘Napster' or ‘Kazaa'. Now when a teenager hears a song he or she likes on the radio they don't rush to the record store. They rush to their computer. It is not just teenagers either. Millions of adults indulge in this type of music piracy every day. Even though they are ripping off the very artists they love. I believe however that the problem is not with the designers of ‘Kazaa' or with the people who are downloading it. After all millions of people use these services, law abiding ordinary people. The reason for this I believe is because people see record companies as big faceless corporations who don't really care about music or people, just making money. I think it is the music companies responsibility to stop people using these ways of obtaining music by making ‘popular music' mor about music and less about money.

Overview Of Cooling System Engineering Essay

In order to cut downing fuel ingestion and run into the emanation criterions, many betterments has been made. The illustrations of the betterments are combustion schemes, fuel injection system, exhaust emanation and fuel quality [ 1 ] . There are four possible beginnings of atmospheric pollution from the car. Without emanation controls, a carburettor and fuel armored combat vehicle emits bluess, the crankcase emits blowby gases and the tailpipe emits exhaust gases that contain pollutants. The chief regulated pollutant in engine fumes are nitrogen oxides ( NOx ) , C monoxide ( CO ) , unburned hydrocarbon ( HC ) and smoke [ 2 ] . These air pollutants are harmful to human existences every bit good as workss and animate beings. The jurisprudence now requires automotive makers to put in emanation controls. Car that gives away inordinate sum of air pollutants may non be allowed on the streets someday. Stronger Torahs restricting automotive air pollution and compulsory review and care has been proposed. These Torahs are portion of the authorities policy that autos must lend every bit small as possible to the job of air pollution. Each auto already have three major systems for commanding pollutants from these beginnings that is positive crankcase airing ( PVC ) , evaporative emanation control and exhaust emanation control. But in this survey we want to concentrate more on engine chilling system and its effects to the emanation decrease, fuel ingestion and engine public presentation. Now, we will through about the constituents of engine chilling system and its maps. Engine chilling system is a system that responsible for chilling the engine by let go ofing heat through the chilling fives so that the auto & A ; acirc ; ˆâ„ ¢s engine is non excessively hot or non excessively cold. This system helps to convey the engine up at to normal runing temperatures every bit rapidly as possible and maintain the operating temperature for efficient map of the auto engine. It is really of import to maintain the engine at its most operating temperature at all velocities and runing conditions. Burning fuel in the engine produces heat. Some of the heat must be taken away before it amendss the engine parts. This is one of the occupations that performed by the chilling system. If the engine temperature is excessively low, fuel ingestion will lift and if the temperature is excessively hot for excessively long, the engine will overheat.1.2 TYPES OF COOLING SYSTEMThere are two types of auto chilling system which is the air chilling system and liquid chilling sys tem. Air chilling system is a system that uses air as a chilling agent. It is normally used in individual cylinder engines such as bikes while liquid chilling system is known as the radiator system. It a system that uses liquid as a chilling agent and is used in a multi-cylinder engine such as autos and trucks. Radiator is the important constituents in the auto chilling system. It ensures the engine is non overheating. Figure 1.1: Cooling System Components [ 12 ]1.3 COMPONENTS OF COOLING SYSTEM1.3.1 WATER JACKETFor operation of the chilling systems, it uses five basic parts or constituents to make the occupation in commanding the engine temperature that is H2O jackets, H2O pump, thermoregulator, radiator and fan. Water jackets are unfastened infinites between the cylinder walls and the outside shell of the block and caput. Coolant from the H2O pump flows foremost through the block H2O jackets. Then, the coolant flows up through the cylinder caput H2O jackets and back to the radiator.1.3.2 WATER PUMPWater pump normally known as impeller pumps. It is attached to the forepart of the engine and are driven by a belt from crankshaft block. The pump circulates every bit much as 28 390 L of coolant an hr. As the impeller rotates, the curving blades draw coolant from the underside of the radiator. It forces the coolant from the pump mercantile establishment to the H2O jackets. The impeller shaft is supporte d on certain bearings which ne'er need lubrication. The seals prevent the coolant from leaking past the bearings.1.3.3 RadiatorRadiator is a heat money changer that removes heat from engine coolant that go throughing through it. The heat transportation from the hot coolant to the ice chest outside air. It has three chief parts that is radiator nucleus, recess and mercantile establishment armored combat vehicles. The nucleus consists of set of tubings and set of fives that attached to the tubings. Figure 1.2: Coolant Flow Inside Engine Cooling System [ 12 ] C: UsersFaisal Mamat.FaisalMamat-PCDesktopCapture.PNG1.3.4 ThermostatFor thermoregulator, it is a heat operated valve that regulates the coolant temperatures. It does this by commanding the coolant flow from the engine to the radiator. The thermoregulator is in the coolant transition between the cylinder caput and the radiator. The valve in thermostat stay unfastened and close as coolant temperature alterations. Equally long as the coolant temperature is below the thermoregulator set point, the thermoregulator remains closed. Once the temperature arrives at the set point, the thermoregulator starts to open, directing heated coolant through the radiator. The radiator so cools the het engine coolant and the H2O pump forces the coolant back through the engine. The transition to the radiator is closed when the engine is cold so the engine can warms up more rapidly. Engine heat corsets in the engine alternatively of being carrie d to the radiator. Figure 1.3: Closed Position of Thermostat [ 12 ] Figure 1.4: Open Position of Thermostat [ 12 ]1.3.5 ELECTRIC FANAn electric fan is turned on by thermostatic switch merely when needed. For illustration, it turns on when the coolant temperature reach 93 & A ; Acirc ; & A ; deg ; C and turn off back the fan if the coolant drops below this temperature. But on vehicles with air conditioning, turning on the air conditioner bypass the thermostatic switch. The fans run all the clip when air conditioner is on. The fan is controlled by electronic control faculty ( ECM ) in many vehicles with an electronic engine control system.1.4 PROPERTIES OF COOLANT1.4.1 TAP WATERTap H2O is drinkable H2O supplied to a pat inside the family or workplace. The application of engineerings involved in supplying clean H2O to places, concerns and public edifices is a major subfield of healthful technology. Specific chemical compounds are frequently added to tap H2O during the intervention procedure to set the pH or take contaminations, every bit good as Cl to kill biological toxins. The usage of tap H2O adversely affect the auto chilling system. Tap H2O contains Mg and Ca ions that will organize the xanthous precipitate ( rust ) when the H2O becomes hot. The xanthous precipitate will be attached to the auto engine after long clip period and this will cut down the soaking up of heat from the engine. If this rust become denser, it can interfere the transition of chilling liquid in the auto chilling system.1.4.2 ETHYLENE GLYCOL ( EG )Ethylene ethanediol is an organic compound widely used as an automotive antifreeze and a precursor to polymers. In its pure signifier, it is an odorless, colorless, syrupy, sweet-tasting liquid. Ethylene ethanediol is toxic, and consumption can ensue in decease. Ethylene ethanediol is produced from ethene via the intermediate ethene oxide. The major usage of ethene ethanediol is as a medium for convective heat transportation. For illustration, cars and liquid cool ed computing machines. Pure ethene ethanediol has a specific heat capacity about one half that of H2O. So, while supplying freezing protection and an increased boiling point, ethylene ethanediol lowers the specific heat capacity of H2O mixtures relative to pure H2O. A 50/50 mix by mass has a specific heat capacity of about 0.75 BTU/lb F, therefore necessitating increased flow rates in same system comparings with H2O.1.5 FuelGasoline is a transparent, crude oil derived liquid that is used chiefly as a fuel in internal burning engines. It consists largely of organic compounds obtained by the fractional distillment of crude oil, enhanced with a assortment of additives. Some gasolene besides contain ethanol as an alternate fuel. A good gasolene quality should hold: Proper volatility, which determines how easy the gasolene vaporizes. Resistance to trip knock or explosion. Oxidation inhibitors, which prevent formation of gum in the fuel system. Antirust agents, which prevent rusting of metal parts in the fuel system. Detergents, which maintain aid maintain the carburettor or fuel injectors clean. Dye for designation, such as ruddy oculus which gives leaded gasolene a rust or orange coloring material.1.5.1 VOLATILITYVolatility is the easiness with which a gasolene vaporizes. Gasoline must zap rapidly after it is assorted with air in the throttle organic structure or intake manifold. Otherwise, beads of liquid gasolene enter the cylinder walls. This increases wear of the cylinder walls, Pistons and rings. Gasoline that does non zap will non fire. It leaves the cylinder in the fumes gas and pollutes the air. This wastes gasolene and reduces fuel economic system. Volatility determines how rapidly a gasolene can zap. A high volatility gasolene can zap rapidly while a low volatility gasolene vaporizes easy. Gasoline must hold the right volatility for the clime in which it is used.1.5.2 ANTIKNOCK QUALITYAntiknock is known as octane evaluation. It measure the gasolene ability to defy knock during burning. The higher the octane evaluation, the greater the engine ‘s opposition to strike hard. The knocking in your engine occurs when the air fuel mixture detonates prematurely. Since it is the gasolene vapour that ignites, the air fuel mixture must be right to fire swimmingly. Some of the jobs associated with knock are overheating of engine parts such as valves, Pistons and flicker stoppers.1.6 EmissionThen we will travel for the account about the burning in the engine and how it ensuing emanation. Automotive fuels such as gasolene are made largely of two elements that H and C. They have chemical symbols H and C. This type of fuel is hydrocarbon ( HC ) . During complete burning in the engine, these two elements unite with other component, the gas O. Oxygen, normally in the signifier of free O ( O2 ) , makes up approximately 20 per centum of the Earth atmosphere. This is the air that we breathe. During burning procedure, each atom of O will unify with two H atoms. Each C atom unites with two O atoms. Oxygen unifying with H green goodss H2O ( H2O ) . Carbon unifying with O green goodss gas C dioxide ( CO2 ) . During burning, the combustion of air fuel mixture in the engine cylinder may make 2200oC or higher. This high temperature produces force per unit area in the engine that makes it run and produces power. With perfect burning, all the H and C in gasolene would unify with the O. The fumes would incorporate merely harmless H2O and CO2. But burning is non perfect in the engine. Some of the gasolene ( HC ) does non fire. Besides, some of it merely partially burns. This produces C monoxide ( CO ) . This deficiency of O prevents the formation of C dioxide. The unburned gasolene and partially burned gasolene ( CO ) issue from the engine through the tailpipe. Once in the air, it will do atmospheric pollution. Another group of atmospheric pollutants the engine is nitrogen oxide ( NOx ) . About 80 per centum of the ambiance is gas N ( N ) . High temperatures in the burning chamber do some of the N and O to unify and organize N oxide ( NOx ) .1.7 PROBLEM STATEMENTNowadays the rate of fuel ingestion presently traveling on throughout the universe is rather dismaying. Fuel ingestion and emanation rates are off the chart. This will give negative impact to the environment and increase the pollution rate. Basically the power to travel a motor vehicle comes from the combustion of air fuel mixture in an engine. Air pollutants from vehicles comes from the merchandises of this burning procedure. With perfect burning procedure, the emanation would be H2O ( H2O ) and C dioxide ( CO2 ) . Both of these are harmless gases. But burning is non perfect in an engine. Some of the gasolene ( HC ) does non fire and some of it merely partially burns. This produces C monoxide ( CO ) and nitrogen oxide ( NOx ) . Both of these gases are air pollutants and take a breathing contaminated air is really bad for human and animate beings. Then the demand for low cost auto from client that has good public presentation with low fuel ingestion and emanation besides addition. Normally auto that has good public presentation will hold high fuel ingestion and emanation rate. In order to work out these jobs, the survey about engine chilling system and its effects towards engine public presentation, fuel ingestion and emanation decrease will be conducted. Two types of liquid chilling such as tap H2O and ethene ethanediol will be used and its temperature will be checked in order to look into the influenced to these 3 end products.1.8 OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCHTo analyze the consequence of engine chilling system and its constituents to the engine public presentation, fuel ingestion and emanation. To look into the influence of per centum of ethene ethanediol in the coolant and coolant temperature set point to the engine public presentation, fuel use and emanation rate.1.9 SCOPE OF THE RESEARCHThe range of this researched is chiefly about the fluctuations per centum of coolant ( ethylene ethanediol ) mixed with H2O and its temperature effects towards engine public presentation, fuel ingestion and emanation. The per centum that will be used for ethylene ethanediols are 30 % , 50 % and 70 % . For every per centum, the coolant temperature set point will be controlled utilizing two sort of thermoregulator with temperature set point 80oC and 100oC. The increasing temperature in cylinder block by increasing the coolant temperature consequences in fuel nest eggs and emanation decrease. Then for the fuel, gasoline RON 95 will be used. Three trial will be conducted in investigate the engine public presentation, fuel ingestion and emanation rate. The trial for engine public presentation is dynamometer trial. A ergometer is a device that is used for mensurating force, minute of force ( torsion ) , and power. For illustration, the power produced by an engine, motor or other revolving premier mover can be calculated by at the same time mensurating torsion and rotational velocity ( RPM ) . For the fuel ingestion, we will carry on a fuel trial by utilizing a new armored combat vehicle provided by automotive lab. Unit of measurement to mensurate the fuel trial is in liter/km. To mensurating the emanation rate, gas analyser is used and the measuring unit is in concentration of gas which is parts per million ( ppm ) .1.10 SIGNIFICANT OF THE RESEARCHThis survey will give better apprehension and exposure about the operation in the engine chilling system and how it will effects the engine public presentation, fuel ingestion and emanation. Reducing the fuel disbursals by auto users as the rate of fuel ingestion reduced. The expected end product to cut downing the emanation will ensue in increased the air quality that is harmful to worlds. It besides will take in cut downing the air pollution rate and supply more safer environment for people. The low cost auto with good public presentation and low on fuel and emanation rate besides will be develop.2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW2.1 Cooling SYSTEM OPERATIONA immense sum of heat is generated in the internal burning engines. It is created when the air fuel mixture is ignited inside the burning chamber. The detonation that occur will do the Piston to be forced down indoors the cylinder, prying the connecting rods and turning the crankshaft. The temperatures of the metal parts around the cylinder can transcend 2500oC. To forestall the constituents such as engine oil, cylinder walls, Pistons, and valves from overheating, it is necessary to efficaciously dispose the heat. Approximately 30 % of heat in the burning procedure is lost into the ambiance through the fumes system, 35 % is converted into power to drive the vehicle and the staying 35 % lost as heat through the cylinder walls [ 9 ] . Water pump is attached at the forepart of the engine and driven by a belt from crankshaft block. The impeller rotates and the curving blades draw liquid chilling from the underside of the radiator and force it to flux through pump mercantile establishments and H2O jackets. The liquid chilling will flux through passageways in the engine block and cylinder caput. Temperature in the burning chamber can around 2500oC, so chilling around this country is critical to forestall overheat. The countries around exhaust valve are particularly important and about all infinite inside the cylinder caput around the valve that is non needed for construction filled with coolant. But when the engine is still cold, thermostat still near and the liquid chilling is circulated back to the engine. By shuting the transition through radiator when engine is cold, the engine warms up more rapidly. Engine heat corsets in the engine alternatively of being carried to the radiator. This shortens warms up clip, wastes less fuel and reduces exhaust emanations [ 3 ] . After engine already heat up, the thermoregulator keeps the engine running at a higher temperature than it would without a thermoregulator. The higher operating temperature improves engines efficiency and reduces exhaust emanations [ 3 ] .2.1.1 EFFECT OF RADIATORA radiator normally known as heat money changer. The hot coolant that flows through it will reassign the heat by the air blown through the aluminum fives by fan. Nowadays modern autos use aluminium radiators. It normally made by brazing thin aluminum fives to flattened aluminum tubings. Flow of the coolant is from recess to the mercantile establishment through many tubings that mounted in parallel agreement. These fives will carry on the heat from the coolant inside the tubings and reassign it through the air that fluxing through the radiator. [ 1 ] A type of five is inserted into the tubing called turbulator. Its map is to increases the turbulency of the fluid fluxing through the tubings. If the flowing of the fluid through the tubing is smooth, merely the fluid that touching the tubings would be cool straight. The sum of heat transferred from the fluid to the tubes depends on the difference in the temperature between the tubing and the fluid touching it. Therefore, less heat will be transferred if the fluid that is in contact with the tubing cools down rapidly. To forestall that, turbulency is created inside the tubing and all of fluid mixes together. Keeping the temperature of the fluid touching the tubing up so that more heat can be extracted and all of the fluid inside the tubing is used efficaciously.2.1.2 EFFECT OF RADIATOR FANThe map of radiator fan is to pull the air towards the radiator and helps to chill the hot coolant that fluxing through the tubings. It normally has four or more blades that spin quickly to supply s ufficient air to that would chill the engine. The fan will be mounted between the radiator and the engine so that the air can easy fluxing through the radiator. There are besides extra fan in forepart of the radiator in some autos in order to pull more cool air to the engine particularly when vehicle is non traveling fast plenty, really small cool air reaches the radiator and the engine is non cooled decently.2.1.3 EFFECT OF PRESSURE CAPThe radiator cap or besides known as force per unit area cap really increases the boiling point of your coolant by about 25oC. The cap is a force per unit area release valve and normally is set to 15 pounds per square inchs. When the coolant is placed under force per unit area, its boiling point will increase. As the engine running, the chilling system will be heated up and increase the force per unit area. The lone topographic point where the force per unit area can get away is at the force per unit area cap. Therefore, the scene of the spring on th e cap determines the maximal force per unit area in the chilling system. If the force per unit area reaches 15 pounds per square inch, it will force the valve unfastened and leting the coolant to get away from the chilling system. The flowing of the coolant is from overflow tubing to into the underside of the overflow armored combat vehicle. This sort of agreement will maintain air out of the system. After the radiator is already cools back down, a vacuity is created in the chilling system that pulls unfastened another spring loaded valve while sucking the H2O back in from the underside of the overflow armored combat vehicle to replace the H2O that was expelled.2.1.4 EFFECT OF WATER PUMPWater pumps are impeller pumps. They attached to the forepart of the engine and driven by a belt from the crankshaft block. As the impeller rotates, the curving blades draw coolant from the underside of the radiator [ 3 ] . The H2O pump merely thrust to drive the round flow of the coolant within the engine chilling system, so the recess is the point of lowest force per uni t area in the system and the issue point is the highest force per unit area. The force per unit area drops aggressively at the inlet/outlet of the H2O pump during the operational of the H2O engines and this force per unit area bead will change in proportion to the rotational velocity. Water pumps in engines are prone to cavitation and air bubbles are likely to pervade in to antifreeze and will badly cut downing the public presentation, dependability and service life of the engines [ 6 ] . Cavitation means the pits or bubbles are organizing in the liquid that have been are pumping. These pits form at the low force per unit area or suction side of the pump. For the well design engine chilling system, cavitation is less likely to take occur as the temperature of the coolant diminutions. But when the cavitation temperature is reached, the force per unit area of the H2O pumps drops suddenly and all the chilling system loses its functionality.2.1.5 EFFECT OF THERMOSTATThe chief map of the thermoregulator is to let the engine to heat up rapidly and maintain it at its efficient temperature. It control this by modulating the sum of H2O that goes through the radiator. The coolant in the chilling system starts to originate by picking up heat at the H2O jackets. In the coolant circuit, the force per unit area gradient exist and doing the hot coolant flows out from the engine to the radiator or to coolant beltway transition [ 2 ] . Once the temperatures of the coolant rises to 80oC, the thermoregulator starts to open. Different thermostat unfastened at different temperatures and leting fluid to flux through the radiator. The secret of the thermoregulator lies in the little cylinder located on the engine side of the device. Actually this cylinder is filled with wax that starts to run at temperatures 80oC ( depends on the thermoregulator ) . Then, a rod that is connected to the valve imperativeness into this wax. As the wax thaws. It will spread out and forcing the rod out o f the cylinder and opening the valve.2.2 EFFECT OF COOLANTCoolant is the mixture of antifreeze and H2O in the chilling system. The normally used antifreeze is Ethylene Glycol. This coolant will go around through the chilling system. It will take the waste heat from the engine and delivers the heat through the radiator hosiery to the radiator. It is non recommended to utilize merely H2O as a liquid chilling because it would stop dead if the temperature bead below 0oC. This would halt the circulation and the engine would overheat. As the H2O would spread out 9 % as it freezes, it would check the cylinder block and caput, split the radiator [ 3 ] . By commanding the engine chilling system in a flexible manner as comparison to the conventional chilling system, it will better the fuel ingestion rate of flicker ignition ( SI ) engines [ 11 ] . It is known from the cold start research that the coolant and inlet charge temperature are cardinal parametric quantities to cut down pollutant emanations and warrant smooth engine operation. Cold start experiment were performed with coolant temperatures of 15oC and 80oC. In the steady province operation reached after the start, the Piston surface temperature was severally 110oC and 150oC. The HC emanations were 25 % lower and the NOx emanations 7 % higher with the higher coolant temperature. It seems to bespeak that there is an influence of the coolant temperature on the emanations through the cylinder wall temperatures [ 5 ] . In the hunt for greater fuel economic system and decreased emanation end product, the engine chilling system is being targeted for farther betterments to engine public presentation through its effects on engine frictional losingss. Fuel economic system betterments from the alterations to the engine chilling system are derived chiefly from reduced engine frictional losingss with increased oil temperature by raising the engine operating temperature indirectly through the measure addition in the coolant temperature. Hydrocarbon ( HC ) and C monoxide ( CO ) end product are besides shown to diminish with the addition in operating temperature [ 7 ] . There are besides suggestion that higher cylinder block temperatures will cut down the frictional losingss with the Piston and pealing battalion and will take to cut downing fuel ingestion [ 10 ] . But the increasing of operating temperature has a negative consequence on N oxide ( NOx ) end product as the formation of NOx in the burning chamber can be extremely sensitive to temperature alterations [ 7 ] . There are some old plants in the engine chilling country focal points on to the fuel economic system benefit to IC engines through the decrease engine frictional losingss by raising the coolant temperature. As the coolant temperature additions, the cylinder block wall temperaturs besides increases and will ensue in cut downing the HC emanations [ 11 ] . It concentrates chiefly on gasolene engines where oil temperature is comparatively lower and the tailpipe emanations are HC and CO. Fuel efficiency betterments about 10 % are achieved in portion burden conditions by raising coolant temperature [ 7 ] .Methodology3.1 IntroductionIn this chapter, we will discourse about the processs and full activities to transport out in this whole undertaking. The flow chart below will depict the stairss that should be followed during this undertaking. Basically there are 3 trial that will be conducted that is dynamometer trial, fuel trial and emanation trial.3.2 FLOW CHARTPart Choice Choose the type of liquid chilling and thermoregulator that will be used. Preparation and Setup Choose the type of liquid chilling and thermoregulator that will be used. Run the experiment The experiment will be conducted to the conventional and modified chilling system. Emission Trial Fuel Trial Dynamometer Test Datas AnalysisTYPES OF METHODS3.3.1 DYNAMOMETER TrialDynamometer is really a device usage to mensurating force, minute of force ( torsion ) and power produced by an engine or motor. We can see the illustration from the power produced by an engine, motor or other revolving premier mover can be calculated by at the same time mensurating torsion and rotational velocity ( RPM ) . Nowadays dyno trial become more easy to run with the progress of the modern computing machine and bring forth more accurate consequences. A dyno that paired with the computing machine will expose the power evaluation of a given machine as a figure below. Degree centigrades: UsersFaisal Mamat.FaisalMamat-PCDesktopdynamometer-test-2.1-800Ãâ€"800.jpg Figure 3.1: Example Graph of Dynamometer Test Actually dyno trial is used for assorted applications but the most common one is automobile proving. Automobile makers will mensurate the public presentation of a auto or truck in order to market its power. Sports auto will modified their vehicles with aftermarket parts in order to accomplish higher power end product and so run the dyno trial to measure their alterations. Dyno trials can be run in a twosome of different ways which is human body and engine dyno. When running a human body dyno trial, the vehicle to be tested is driven onto the dyno platform that simulates opposition through the usage of machine-controlled wheels. For an engine dyno trial, the engine to be tested is mounted to the dyno device. These different methods produce different measurings such as brake Equus caballus power and torsion from a human body dyno and flywheel Equus caballus power and torsion from an engine dyno. Power is frequently lost through the thrust train of a vehicle so the brake measuring will typically less than the flywheel measuring. The theoretical account that will be used for ergometer testing is Dynapack 3000. The constituents of Dynapack 3000 consists of computing machine, detectors hub adapters accountant and power soaking up units. This trial is a spot from other dyno trial because of the riddance of the tyre to roller interface on a conventional roller dyno. It eliminates this variable by utilizing a hub adapter that provides a direct yoke to our power soaking up units. There will be no tyre faux pas, no turn overing opposition and no opportunity of the vehicle coming off from the dyno at high velocities. For the theory of operation. First the hubs of the vehicle are straight attached to hydraulic pumps. A variable burden can be applied with all of the possible keeping power that hydraulic possess. Figure below show that the wheels are removed from the vehicle and the variable fit hub adapters are bolted to the vehicle axle. The hub adapter is so straight attached to a hydraulic soaking up unit. The job with the bing armored combat vehicle is the fuel ingestion can non be measured right. The new fuel armored combat vehicle will be connected utilizing the hosiery from the fuel pump to the series of injectors at cylinder caput. Gasoline or RON 95 will used in this fuel trial. The target audience Essays

The target audience Essays The target audience Paper The target audience Paper There are many languages used in the advert, but the ones that I thought of straight away are shocking, aggressive and factual.  I found it shocking, because the dog is happy as if the owner hasnt taken the dog for a walk. Now the dog says hes going for a swim, but then he changes his mind, because the river looks cold and dirty plus the owner didnt bring a towel, instead he bought a sack. When the dog says the owner a sack you can assume that he is going to put the dogs in the sack and throw them in the canal. You see this through pathos. I found it aggressive at the end, when the slogan came up, because I have already explained, it is direct appeal. It is aggressive because they use the word DAMN. That is an unusual word to use in adverts, but then again it is important. That is why I found it factual just before the slogan. The woman voice over says that every year the RSPCA has to rescue thousands of unwanted pets, and it is true, that is why I think it is factual.  Using camera angles, diegetic sound and an aggressive slogan at the end put the RSPCAs television campaign together.  The use of camera angles in the advert makes the advert more important. There are many camera angles used in the RSPCAs broadcast, there are, medium shots, low angle and the god shot (birds eye view). The purpose of the medium shot is to set the atmosphere. Medium shots are sort of like flash backs, but theyre just still shots. We see this shot in the advert, when the dog changes his mind about swimming, because the river is cold and dirty. After the dog says that, the camera goes back to show us how dirty the river is and the camera stays there for five seconds.  The other shot is when the owner takes the dogs to put them in the sack, there is a wall with graffiti on it, and bin bags in front. Already that shop makes the atmosphere seem dangerous. Low angle shots make the owner seem powerful. This is because this angle is through the dogs eyes. This camera angle is the dog, because the camera is shaking. This angle is good because it shows us what the dog sees, and how we would feel if we were in the dogs position. This is a sort of persuasive shot, because if you were a dog then you wouldnt want that happening to you.  This angle makes the owner seem powerful, because in the advert when it comes up to the graffiti on the walls, the owner puts a rope around the camera to make it a leash.  The birds eye shot is the most important shot. There is only one of these shots, which makes it special. This shot is probably the biggest shot in the advert, because this proves you are right about the owner, if he is really going to kill the dogs. This shot shows the owner putting the dog in the sack and walking towards the river.  The diegetic sounds in the advert give us an affect of isolation and fear.  The diegetic sounds in this advert are; footsteps, river flowing, cars and trees moving in the wind.  The fear factor is when the owner crosses the road with his dogs, but doesnt have them on a leash. This makes us think he deliberately wants them to get run over by a car.  When they are walking or running through the grass, the dog looks at the river and thinks again about going for a swim, but still the owner takes him. This is isolation. What gives this advert a big affects that the dogs voice is young and Scottish, which makes the audience think the dog is care free and happy and is more vulnerable.  Without the owners diegetic sound, then we wouldnt have suspected that the owner was going to do this, because he started off happy, but then gradually gets angry, stressed and inpatient.  No voice-overs make the audience think back on images.  The slogan at the end is really aggressive, but it still is persuasive. This is because the slogan is presented on a blank screen, followed by the birds eye view shot of the dog being thrown in the river. My opinion is that the television advert is more persuasive than the radio advert. The radio advert you have to think and listen to the advert and work out that it is a dog, but in the television advertise you already know it is a dog because another dog is running in front of the camera that is speaking. Radio adverts are some how good, because the people that dont have time cant watch it on television, so they just listen to it on the radio. If you were a blind person then you would prefer the television advertise because it has diegetic sounds, which make you imagine what is going on. Some people prefer radio adverts, because the television takes up a lot of electricity, plus radio is cheaper than television.

Analysis of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

Analysis of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson When Shirley Jacksons chilling story The Lottery was first published in 1948 in The New Yorker, it generated more letters than any work of fiction the magazine had ever published. Readers were furious, disgusted, occasionally curious, and almost uniformly bewildered. The public outcry over the story can be attributed, in part, to The New Yorkers practice at the time of publishing works without identifying them as fact or fiction. Readers were also presumably still reeling from the horrors of World War II. Yet, though times have changed and we all now know the story is fiction, The Lottery has maintained its grip on readers decade after decade. The Lottery is one of the most widely known stories in American literature and American culture. It has been adapted for radio, theater, television, and even ballet. The Simpsons television show included a reference to the story in its Dog of Death episode (season three). The Lottery is available to subscribers of The New Yorker and is also available in The Lottery and Other Stories, a collection of Jacksons work with an introduction by the writer A. M. Homes. You can hear Homes read and discuss the story with fiction editor Deborah Treisman at The New Yorker for free. Plot Summary The Lottery takes place on June 27, a beautiful summer day, in a small New England village where all the residents are gathering for their traditional annual lottery. Though the event first appears festive, it soon becomes clear that no one wants to win the lottery. Tessie Hutchinson seems unconcerned about the tradition until her family draws the dreaded mark. Then she protests that the process wasnt fair. The winner, it turns out, will be stoned to death by the remaining residents. Tessie wins, and the story closes as the villagers- including her own family members- begin to throw rocks at her. Dissonant Contrasts The story achieves its terrifying effect primarily through Jacksons skillful use of contrasts, through which she keeps the readers expectations at odds with the action of the story. The picturesque setting contrasts sharply with the horrific violence of the conclusion. The story takes place on a beautiful summer day with flowers blossoming profusely and the grass richly green. When the boys begin gathering stones, it seems like typical, playful behavior, and readers might imagine that everyone has gathered for something pleasant like a picnic or a parade. Just as fine weather and family gatherings might lead us to expect something positive, so, too, does the word lottery, which usually implies something good for the winner. Learning what the winner really gets is all the more horrifying because we have expected the opposite. Like the peaceful setting, the villagers casual attitude as they make small talk- some even cracking jokes- belies the violence to come. The narrators perspective seems completely aligned with the villagers, so events are narrated in the same matter-of-fact, everyday manner that the villagers use. The narrator notes, for instance, that the town is small enough that the lottery can be through in time to allow the villagers to get home for noon dinner. The men stand around talking of ordinary concerns like planting and rain, tractors and taxes. The lottery, like the square dances, the teenage club, the Halloween program, is just another of the civic activities conducted by Mr. Summers. Readers may find that the addition of murder makes the lottery quite different from a square dance, but the villagers and the narrator evidently do not. Hints of Unease If the villagers were thoroughly numb to the violence- if Jackson had misled her readers entirely about where the story was heading- I dont think The Lottery would still be famous. But as the story progresses, Jackson gives escalating clues to indicate that something is amiss. Before the lottery starts, the villagers keep their distance from the stool with the black box on it, and they hesitate when Mr. Summers asks for help. This is not necessarily the reaction you might expect from people who are looking forward to the lottery. It also seems somewhat unexpected that the villagers talk as if drawing the tickets is difficult work that requires a man to do it. Mr. Summers asks Janey Dunbar, Dont you have a grown boy to do it for you, Janey? And everyone praises the Watson boy for drawing for his family. Glad to see your mothers got a man to do it, says someone in the crowd. The lottery itself is tense. People do not look around at each other. Mr. Summers and the men drawing slips of paper grin at one another nervously and humorously. On first reading, these details might strike the reader as odd, but they can be explained in a variety of ways for instance, that people are very nervous because they want to win. Yet when Tessie Hutchinson cries, It wasnt fair! readers realize there has been an undercurrent of tension and violence in the story all along. What Does The Lottery Mean? As with many stories, there have been countless interpretations of The Lottery. For instance, the story has been read as a comment on World War II or as a Marxist critique of an entrenched social order. Many readers find Tessie Hutchinson to be a reference to Anne Hutchinson, who was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for religious reasons. (But its worth noting that Tessie doesnt really protest the lottery on principle- she protests only her own death sentence.) Regardless of which interpretation you favor, The Lottery is, at its core, a story about the human capacity for violence, especially when that violence is couched in an appeal to tradition or social order. Jacksons narrator tells us that no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box. But although the villagers like to imagine that theyre preserving tradition, the truth is that they remember very few details, and the box itself is not the original. Rumors swirl about songs and salutes, but no one seems to know how the tradition started or what the details should be. The only thing that remains consistent is the violence, which gives some indication of the villagers priorities (and perhaps all of humanitys). Jackson writes, Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones. One of the starkest moments in the story is when the narrator bluntly states, A stone hit her on the side of the head. From a grammatical standpoint, the sentence is structured so that no one actually threw the stone- its as if the stone hit Tessie of its own accord. All the villagers participate (even giving Tessies young son some pebbles to throw), so no one individually takes responsibility for the murder. And that, to me, is Jacksons most compelling explanation of why this barbaric tradition manages to continue.

English Curriculumn - Essay Example .† (Dec 2010, p. 16). Green and Cormack in their attempts to explain the wide acceptability of the English language specified that the hybrid quality of the English language that has resulted in its generosity. Empowered by the â€Å"hybridity† as specified by Green and Cormack, the English language has the capacity to satisfy an array of purposes, having multiple social, cultural and educational effects. Keeping in mind the wide acceptability and appreciation of the English language as an essential medium of communication in academic disciplines it has also become important to teach and consequently encourage students to learn the language with such effectiveness so that they can acknowledge effects of the English Language in social, cultural and educational peripheries. Green and Cormack have identified that irrespective of its development and phenomenal success as the language for communication in the global context adequate measures have not yet been taken to context ualise the language within the educational philosophy: â€Å"What has not been understood to date, or sufficiently appreciated, is the extent to which such matters can, and need to, be related to and contextualised within a more general educational history† (Oct 2008, p. 253). Thus, in it important in this context to revaluate theoretical models, pedagogical rationales and â€Å"hybridity† of the English language so that possibilities can be explored to make students realize about the wide scope of its effects in social, cultural and educational aspects. Keeping in accord with Green and Cormack argument about â€Å"hybridity† of the English language that has resulted in the... This essay stresses that while the theoretical models have aimed at enhancing aptitude of a student from different approaches, on the other hand, there is no denial of the fact that unless a student develops the expertise in understanding linguistic diversity and rich rhetoric of the language, he will not be able to communicate with the text and consequently the entire effort will fail. The English Language has been considered by academicians as the most effective medium that would help them to communicate with the text. The element of linguistic variety and ‘hybridity’ of the English Language has been widely accepted and it is because of this reason the language has been able to give birth to so many forms in different regional and cultural domains. This report makes a conclusion that the Victorian 7-10 Syllabus of the English language is ordained in such manner that finds a close relevance with the principles of different theoretical approaches, such as, the Personal Growth Model, Cultural Heritage Model and the Critical Literacy Model. While on one hand, the 7-10 Syllabus enables the education department to follow a specific and well planned structural approach to guide students in the context of enhancing their efficiency in learning the English Language, moreover, it also germinates among students the capacity of creative thinking, analytical power, an aptitude to understand the politics of modernist existence and finally the spontaneous will to realize the responsibilities of civic and citizenship, irrespective of the radical change that has occurred in the socio-cultural scenario compared to the earlier times.

Qualatative excercise - Essay Example However, employees still complain that they are abused verbally, intimidated, and, in general, made to feel inadequate. Situations in which employees are subjected to verbal attacks and to harassing and intimidating behaviors occur frequently in organizations (Namie & Namie, 2003; Rayner, Hoel & Cooper, 2003; Hochheiser, 1998, Hornstein, 1996). Incidents that have non-fatal endings leave employees frustrated; some quit their jobs or develop major health problems. Researchers who recently began examining these workplace behaviors conclude that the deliberate and repeated verbal aggression coupled with ridicule or harassing and intimidating strategies cause mental and physical harm which they regard as a complex phenomenon—workplace bullying (Middleton-Moz & Zawadski, 2002; Davenport, Schwartz, & Elliott, 2002; They adopted the term â€Å"workplace bullying† from their counterparts in England, Europe, Canada, Australia, and other countries around the world where research has led to legal and legislative interventions to highlight and prevent workplace bullying. However, American researchers have been slower than their counterparts around the world to investigate the nature of workplace bullying. While research into workplace problems in America has led to legal and legislative action to control assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and discrimination, workplace bullying has not been recognized in America as a unique phenomenon. In fact, the United States is viewed as being â€Å"at least twenty years behind [other countries] on focusing on workplace bullying† (Namie & Namie, 2003, p. 99). For some time now, requests for relief from the workplace bullying have not been very successful in the courts (Yamada, 2000). This interest in workplace bullying has generated studies about â€Å"the types of bullies that exist, the tactics

Capital budgeting - Essay Example In addition, NPV approach provides a clear indication on how the profits will be obtained, unlike IRR and payback approaches. Therefore, the NPV is the most useful tool in project valuation (Arthur, 2014). Of the three techniques (NPV, IRR, and payback period, the least useful tool to use is the IRR, because discount rate has an inverse relationship with NPV. When NPV continues to increase, the anticipated future cash flows become less valuable and hence making IRR least useful tool to use in project valuation. On the other hand, payback approach is the second least useful tool to use after IRR. The Payback period indicate how long the cash flow obtained from the project will recover the initial capital outlay. In addition, the payback period fails to indicate the amount of cash flow to be generated from the project. However, it is the simplest method of calculating project forecast (Arthur, 2014). The answer would not be the same because a negative NPV will be obtained when cost of capital increases from 14% to 25%. It means that as the cost of the capital increase the return obtained from the project decreases significantly up to a negative (Peterson & Fabozzi,2002). Such decrease makes the project un-profitable and, therefore, it is advisable for the EEC not to invest when cost of capital increases to 25%. If EEC did not save an even cash flow of $500,000 per year, the answer would be the same. The least amount of investment that would make this investment attractive to EEC is $100,000. From the above scenario, the EEC would be willing to pay the supplier $2000, 000. The president of EEC should be aware that if the cost of capital increases as discussed above, the underlying effect is a negative NPV. It means that the project will be no longer profitable to the company (Arthur, 2014). If the expected savings are less than $500,000 per annum, it will be difficult for the ECC to pay its supplier a capital of $2000, 000, and

Sagatiba plc - Essay Example Cachaca was renamed as Sagatiba. While, Cachaca was mainly marketed in Brazil, under the banner of Sagatiba, its market was has considerably expanded with nearly 50% of its output being exported to America and Europe. Strategic marketing plans are crucial part of promoting products and services of an organization. â€Å"Organizations must change because their environments change† (Bateman, 1990). They implement necessary changes in the organization to not only survive but compete with their rival with confidence. Changing environment of technological advancement has made it imperative for one to evolve new marketing strategy in order to maintain an edge over their rivals. The compulsions of the rapidly transforming societal paradigms and technological advancements are important factors that require more comprehensive and innovative approach to market strategy. The company needs to formulate marketing and communication strategy in a way that would not only uphold a high standard of corporate ethics but it must be able to ensure and exhibit understanding of the cross cultural values and handle issues with sensitivity. Any strategy that is formed needs to be localized to suit the local conditions. Strategic partnerships with other business must be made to meet the growing demands of the customers and such strategic relationship should be conformed and regulated within the given set of parameters so that the customer is not affected in any way and unconsciously becomes a scapegoat for our own lack of business understanding with our business partners. The partnership must facilitate business leverage over the rivals. At the same time, it should add value to our products and services, thereby, giving it a unique selling point to attract new and the old customers. Sagatiba needs to be more aggressive in its marketing strategy and forge partnership with various retail outlets and supermarket chains to market its various Sagatiba products. In the recent times, internet

The principles and misconceptions in effective interpersonal Essay

The principles and misconceptions in effective interpersonal communications - Essay Example The principles and misconceptions in effective interpersonal communications The principles and misconceptions in effective interpersonal communications There are several principles that underlie effective interpersonal communication. These principles should be adhered to in order to enhance the success of any interpersonal communication endeavor. The principles of effective interpersonal communication have emanated from mediation, focusing on the quality and nature of interpersonal communication and relationships. One of the key principles of interpersonal communication demands that people should treat one another with a lot of respect. A couple should enjoy being together and present for one another during times of difficulty. Another principle of effective interpersonal communication is that people should not interrupt one another. This principle is essential as it helps a person to be listened to when he or she talks with another person. By not interrupting others, conversations will become useful, joyful, interesting, and worthwhile (Mayer, 2007). In int erpersonal communication, there is a vital principle, which demands that people should not volunteer others. This denotes that there should be the recognition of valuing the right of the other person to make their own choice. As such, there is no need to use one’s language in a manner suggesting we are choosing for the other party. The other principle of effective interpersonal communication is that everyone has the right to pass. This means that a person can make the choice not to do something, especially when he or she does not have the feeling to do it. With this principle in mind, everyone should take responsibility for their own actions and choices. Interpersonal communication also calls for the principle of speaking, but the speaking should not be for long or happen too often. Based on this principle, it can be deduced that talking for too long affects the reliance on communication as a way of connecting with others. Therefore, it is of considerable significance that we allow others to talk about ourselves. Interpersonal communication also holds the principle that we should challenge the behavior of the other person, as opposed to challenging the person. Therefore, complicated situations should be de-personalized from a personal battle to an opportunity for creativity and learning (Mayer, 2007). The other principle of effective interpersonal communication is that confidentiality should be respected. Therefore, one should develop a feeling of safety, trust, and intimacy by valuing what the other person regards as crucial to themselves. Effective interpersonal communication also has the principle that there may be nothing wrong in making mistakes. Thus, people in a relationship should acknowledge that either or both of them may make mistakes. Mistakes can be regarded as leaning opportunities, avenues for insight and connection instead of opportunities where people should blame each other (Mayer, 2007). Effective interpersonal is not without several misconceptions. One of the misconceptions in effective interpersonal communication encompasses the belief that it solves all problems. Although people may learn to communicate about a problem clearly through interpersonal communication, it may be easy to come with a solution to the problem. The other misconception about interpersonal communication entails the belief that it is always a desired thing. However, may communicate in ways that tend to be deceitful, racist, manipulative, and

Dealing with stress Essay Example for Free

Dealing with stress Essay One of the greatest sources of stress at work is caused by the innovations that have been created to make work easier. While it is true that there are already so many inventions and technological devices that have been invented to help people accomplish more at work, the result is far from the anticipated goal of allowing people to rest more. The increased capability of performing more work has been off-set by the fact that more and more tasks are placed upon the employees. The fact paced working environment and steady competition has changed the way work is being done and increased the stress levels. When a few decades ago companies only had to contend with local or national competition, the current business environment faces competition from firms and companies all over the world. Another factor which adds to the stress in any working environment, aside from the increased pressure to produce more, is the fact that the stress in the work place negatively affects the health of employees thus causing more absences and adding more pressure to catch up with the work load. It has been suggested that stress can be thought of as resulting from an â€Å"imbalance between demands and resources† or as occurring when â€Å"pressure exceeds ones perceived ability to cope† (Sedgeman 2005). The most common reasons for stress are poor working conditions such as excessive noise or heat and crowded or poorly designed workspaces, a lack of control over work, time pressures, long or inflexible working hours, too much or too little work or responsibility, confusion about duties and responsibilities, including role ambiguity, a lack of variety and interest in job, inadequate training and possibilities for learning new skills, poor work-life balance, difficult relationships with supervisors and coworkers, lack of support from colleagues, isolation from colleagues, organizational confusion, restructuring, and job change. All of these factors contribute to stress at the work place. It is important to note however that the effect or weight of each of these factors differs from person to person. Over the years, there has been more emphasis on job specialization and training. Aside from performing the regular work tasks, employees are also expected and pressured to meet higher expectations and maintain their competitive edge constantly. These factors were not as prevalent in the work place a few decades ago as they are now. There have been a number of studies on the relationship between stress and job performance that show that as the level of work related stress increases the job performance and satisfaction level also changes. Some of the consequences of stress include, job-related consequences such as low performance and absenteeism, emotion related consequences such as irritability and depression which affect work place relationships, and physiological consequences such as high blood pressure and other illnesses. All of these consequences affect the worker’s ability to perform his/her task at work and are also detrimental to the work atmosphere as more irritable people are less likely to contribute to team-related tasks and goals. Absenteeism is also a problem as it directly affects the work output of not only an individual worker but of the team or unit as well. Many techniques have been implemented to reduce worker stress. In a number of Japanese firms, certain activities such as worker exercise programs have been implemented in an effort to keep the employees in better shape. Other workplaces over the world have taken advantage of the technical advances in communications technology and used these to reduce worker stress levels. Some of these programs include the permitting of certain employees to telecommute at least once or twice a week in order to create a more relaxed yet productive working environment. Other programs included involving the families of the workers in group activities and corporate activities. While these have been shown to have mixed effects in relation to coping with stress, these activities have also shown that the most important way of dealing with work related stress lies in showing the employees that their employer cares about their welfare and is instituting programs to deal with such. In the long run, there is really no sure fire method of dealing with stress. There will always be different stress levels and methods of coping with them. The most important thing that remains, however, is that something is done. A proactive stance is still better than anything. References: Bower, J. E. Segerstrom, S. C. (2004). Effect of Capitalism on Society

Effect of Capitalism on Society ABSTRACT Relationships in business management values and beliefs play a critical role in establish long-term mutual benefits to organizations, However back in history capitalism was envisaged through religious beliefs which apply even to date in our daily lifes, however social networking and educations systems have opened up markets globally, This research paper looks on the impacts associated with capitalism and ethical responsibilities to society; that business and government both have important roles to play in the modern economy; and that ethics and integrity are essential to personal fulfillment and to business success. INTRODUCTION The world today believes in change and liberation due to beliefs and values of every society, the quality of living based on individual decisions and moral values are critical in building and of business relationship. It is therefore vital to understand how business and society can be governed and all manner of people and races respected. Every society has taboos and social entities that control its environment; however business and society is based on values that can be created by others though scientific research. According to Weber, The Protestant Ethic is a starting point towards understanding the multiple dimensions of social change. The relationship between business and ethics is interlocked in the sense that a successful company is one which can effectively maintain the relationship which exists between them and the other parties. For effective corporate management, organization varies due to policies and systems of operation in service deliver, most professionals governed by professional code of ethics invent individual personality. Religious beliefs critically affect each individual spiritual being. Today businesses that have strong corporate codes of ethics are performing well in the long-term. Government policies and competition is vital for survival in every business entity, customer expectations and organization relationships to society are critical in branding and corporate image which differentiates companys offering from those of competitors. To manage it demand for in the long run demands commitment and sound moral behavior. This demonstrates dedication to all stakeholders, ethics enhance how a company operates and also enhances a companys reputation and this brings more profits to the organizations. MAX WEBER PROTESTANT ETHICS Max Weber a German sociologist and political economist (1864 1920) aim at understanding the revolution power based of political stability and control of capitalism. With his social and religious beliefs, he investigated to known why the districts that were most economically developed were also most favorable to a revolution. In his findings, Weber argues that according to the occupational statistics of countries of mixed religious composition, business leaders and owners, as well as the higher skilled laborers and personnel, are overwhelmingly Protestant. He aimed at bring change and revolution. The argument was based on development and education by the Catholics which he believes lead was a cause to nationality imbalance. Resources were unfairly distributed thus the districts ended up converting protestant, it plumbs the deep cultural forces that affect contemporary work life and the workplace in the capitalist communities, and it plumbs the deep religion forces that affect contemporary work life and the workplace. He professed religion balance between the Catholic and Protestant parents tend to give their children different kinds of education, in which his believe was that education is an equal asset to both the Catholics and protestants, however he was not font that Catholics have more of a tendency in education while protestants stay in handicrafts and sectors rather than to go into industry. This suggests that their environment has determined the choice of occupation and seems all the more likely because one would normally expect Catholics to get involved in economic activity. His argument was based on political power and influence and his believe that Protestants had stronger tendencies and capabilities to develop the economy rationalism. To him this was not a philosophy of mere greed but a statement laden with moral language. Creating modern capitalism that affects contemporary life and work place ethically. Lacks of ethics contribute to a state where the corporate bottom lines make profits through immoral acts. This relents to damaged image and leads to corrupt dealings and poor ethical practices. Managers who promote an atmosphere with high ethical standards create a competitive concept that positions a company above rivals. This will impact help increase revenues for the benefit of all stakeholders. SPIRIT OF CAPITALISM Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for profit. Decisions regarding supply, demand, price, distribution, and investment are made within a free market. Profit is sent to owners who invest in businesses, and wages are paid to workers. The world of business is where religion demands high moral and values; Webers idea of modern capitalism as growing out of the religious pursuit of wealth meant a change to a rational means of existence, wealth. Looking at this argument the world today has changed due to advancement of human knowledge and technological advances, religion affects business depending on relationship created among business partners, however religion is an obligation to look at, basically the impact can be based on critical values of entrepreneurs or markets targeted. Every organization is critically evaluated through its promise and purposes to deliver its products and services. The compliment can be on ability to abide by the vision and mission statement. Weber says, at some point the Calvinist rationale informing the spirit of capitalism became unreliant on the underlying religious movement behind it, leaving only rational capitalism. In essence then, Webers Spirit of Capitalism is effectively and more broadly a Spirit of rationalization which can be too personal. Webers argues that the first and probably most vital feature of the spirit of capitalism was that it invested economizing with high moral significance. The individual engages in capitalistic economizing not only for the expediency of making a living, but in the expectation that such activity would test his inner resources and thus affirm his moral worth. Today communication among business entities has created a link to doing business better, the advancement of technology e.g. the use of electronic mode of payment has brought about cross boundary relationships which can easily be manage and monitored. In this regard, likewise, the individual entrepreneur isnt allowed to become overly absorbed into or preoccupied with him. His existence revolves around an objective concern outside himself, which unceasingly demands his devotion and thus, becomes a test of his self-worth; Weber aims of scrutinizing individual strength and builds trust which is critical to business operations. This is to provide opportunities for resistance in the organizational structures with emancipation alongside those for repression and subordination. In most economies equal business opportunities are applied to allow free movement of labour and interest payment are legitimate returns on capital which provides legal mechanism for state in mobilization of funds and partnerships and create a modern state. The challenges in the society today are; highly competitive environments, global warming, inflation, which puts pressure on companys leaders to create profitable relationships remain competent to create channels which circumvent to stakeholders returns on investment. The pressure of delivering positive results can lead to unethical decisions by individuals. However Governing legal frameworks therefore become critical as a key competency for quality productivity. Every organization has to avoid unethical environment because if it occurs it usually gets passed down through the organization ruining its reputation. In the world today China and India are believed to be federal capitalist who excises economical power, capitalism depends upon a delegation of power from the state to economic actors and upon the coercive power of the state to design, monitor, and ultimately enforce market regulation. The pricing mechanism coordinates supply and demand within a given market framework, while the visible hand of government enforces the framework and keeps it up to date. (Bruzz Scott: the root of modern capitalism journal 11 June 2008/ LUTHER CONCEPTION CALLING According to Weber his conception calling was on realization that people have got duty to fulfill and obligations imposed on them which must be attain, this believe adds value to letting each individual practice his capabilities and beliefs for betterment of living. He argues that each person has got a legitimate calling or purpose by his God; however the society is a mix of races as others rarely believe in God. He came to believe in absolute obedience to Gods will, and acceptance of the way things were. According to Weber he was not trying to evaluate the ideas of the reformation in either social of religious worth. He was only trying to understand how certain characteristics of modern culture can be traced to the reformation. Scientifically most of Webers unforeseen believe are today engulfing physically through research challenging this believes. Today the society demands quality products and services with gratification of immediate results, perhaps a reason some companies practice corporate values to deliver results based of professionalism and not mere religion hindrances. Due to bureaucratic leaderships it is obvious that ones individual moral capabilities impacts decisions and choices made in a business and in the process of it the immoral acts will decline. This in today business relationship is based on training and staff motivation. The staff morale is critical; at such a case Webers religion plays a role as most organization start a day with a word of prayer as a way of building courage and etiquette among employees. Thus, Weber capitalistic spirit was not the goal of these religious reformers; their cultural impact was unforeseen and maybe undesired. Webers moral values were that his study will hopefully contribute to the understanding of how ideas become effective forces in history. He in his calling was to civilize other believers and create a more ethical responsible society with a better lifestyle. In the modern society Weber also notes that societies having more Protestants should be those that have a more developed capitalist economy. Webers transformation approach was not personal for monetary gain but based on passion for his Lutheran faith. In the other part, his calling was that people be saved, and accumulate wealth as the resources were to be reinvested in worthy enterprises. The spirit of capitalism constituted a sort of moral habitus which burdened the possessor of money with a stewards obligation toward his own possessions. Weber argues that, the individual entrepreneur isnt allowed to become overly absorbed to a none ethical relationship, rather their existence revolves around an objective concern outside himself, which unceasingly demands his devotion and thus, becomes a test of his self-worth. It is in the best interest of a company to promote universal ethically good behavior in the workplace. This can be through Consumer trust and confidence in a business. This ultimately enhances economical benefits to a company and its network will grow. Thus, Weber concludes that the simple idea of the calling in Lutheranism is at best of limited importance to his study GLOBALIZATION Modern capitalism is about blended revolution aimed to create systems across boundaries; technology is factor that has influenced positively capitalism development on perspective of social systems, most government political challenges also affects the relationships by compromising relationships management across boundaries. However, this can be done through international marketing e.g. development abroad, franchising licensing and many others or through outsourcing services. Trade is increasingly global in scope today. Technological has improved transportation and communication opportunities and trade is now more practical. Thus, consumers and businesses now have access to the very best products from many different countries. Increasingly rapid technology lifecycles also increases the competition among countries as to who can produce the newest in technology. In part to accommodate these realities, countries in the last several decades have taken increasing steps to promote global trade through agreements such as the General Treaty on Trade and Tariffs, (Lars Perner, Ph.D) At glace ethical organizations create a stable organization culture and affects the level of decision making, the relationship between business and the society is vital, thus ethics is a component of doing good business. It would be a better world if the alternatives to source professionals could be utilized. However a population of unskilled workers is high and various governments rules of socials and dictatorship style of management insulates countries with anti market policies creating a non conducive environment for investments. However adapting ethical social governance can change for well created government for capitalism has got to start somewhere due to poor leadership opponents of globalization worry that many of the economic opportunities afforded the world while in many developing countries. CONCLUSION As the world advance and relationships are made, it is vital to understand the impact that matters to our daily lifes devotions. All aspect and merits of life are contacted by beliefs and creation of ones faith. The Works of J.D. Salinger Essay -- Biography Bio

J.D. Salinger: The influence of an author and his writings on 1950s America The end of World War II and the beginning of the 1950s saw a time of prosperity and success in mainstream America. Less than a decade after the United States allied with Great Britain and the Soviet Union, forming one of the most powerful forces in history to defeat the axis powers in the war, the U.S. was deeply entrenched in a nuclear arms race and "Cold War" with the Soviet Union. As a result, the country put on a collective fa†¡ade of stability and strength to cover up many injustices that were taking place during the time. Americans, equipped for the first time in a long while with a good amount of money, flooded to the suburbs and replaced any sorrows they might have had with material products and consumerism -- creating an America of conformity and extravagance that Salinger would devote much of his writing to critiquing. With the publication of Catcher in the Rye in the summer of 1951, America was introduced to Holden Caulfield, a character who would continue to remain in the American psyche for over half a century. Holden was the voice of this young generation who did not seem to have the same conformist attitudes or mainstream goals as their parents. Predictably, this critique of society and questioning of traditional American values was quickly met with an attempt to censor the message of dissent. Beginning in 1954 and continuing for decades, Catcher was criticized for its cynical tone, its "un-American" content, and its foul language ("237 goddams, 58 bastards, 31 Chrissakes, and 1 fart," according to one complaint" Steinle 3). But despite this controversy, and no doubt at least partially because of it, countless numbers of Americans read ... ...es H. "Incommunicability in Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye." Amalgam Model

Counseling Theory: An Amalgam Model, 2008, Name, affirms that science proves what the Bible has long understood and says about man or human nature; that Scripture alone has the correct diagnosis of the sickness and potential outcomes of his endeavors and challenges as well as the results especially, of a fallen nature. The author uses the scientific researches that show how the truths of Scripture are explained and made manifest in the lives of men and women.Practitioners who make use of this model that there is neither competition nor confusion as to the pre-eminence of Scripture; rather, it presupposes that science complements what the Biblical writers as revealed, have long known the real and lasting solutions to the â€Å"sicknesses† that man ahs encountered. I. Introduction Psychology has made great strides in the development of principles and methods and the discovery of facts which find useful application in various aspects of everyday life. The objectives of psychology are : (1) to understand human behavior; (2) to predict human behavior by means of observation and experiment; (3) to influence or alter the behavior of he individual or group in desirable ways so that he can achieve the goal he desires. Behavior is described and analyzed. On this basis, an attempt to predict behavior is possible, and although this may not thoroughly and completely be accomplished in some endeavors, the basic understanding then is that there are certain expectations concerning how any person would act or decide upon things that are within his conscious awareness.Psychology is of great importance to man since psychological problems are common to group relations, in whatever framework a person or group of individuals come from. The thrust of this paper is to develop my own theory of behavior and putting these in the context of the helping relationship. It starts with a basic understanding of human behavior coming from various viewpoints or perspectives. Then it discuss es the reasons why an individual becomes mentally sick or develops unhealthy patterns of behaving towards anything that affect him. This includes the maladjustments that are usually prevalent in a person’s day-to-day functioning especially if and when he has not learned or developed the skills of rightly apprehending the tests of life, so to speak. The work of a counselor is a privilege since the counselee or client will be unfolding his life and makes himself vulnerable to a stranger. It is not an easy choice to make hence, all the training and knowledge would be indispensable to help the client reveal and trust himself to another. Counseling is not a very easy job.But it can be facilitated well when there is a clear vision of what and how it unfolds in the relationship that is established with the client. II. Discussion The paper is divided into different parts and meant to answer to the requirements stated as follows. A. Summary of my overall approach Psychology is the scie ntific of human behavior and mental processes; a study which is of considerable interest to almost all people. In the pursuit of this study is the important feature of understanding the goals or objectives. To describe, explain and predict behavior and if possible control or modify it, are the main objectives of this scientific discipline. These objectives confine as well as broaden student’s approach towards a deeper perspective of the field in the sense that he/she will have a grasp on the variety of subject matters that psychology provides, the advances or breakthroughs it has attained, its inadequacies and shortcomings, as well as forthcoming challenges the discipline faces. Since human individuals are complex and changing, the study is fascinating yet possesses a certain degree of difficulty.Fascinating because it explores all the facets of being human and possessing a certain degree of difficulty because of its multifarious sub-disciplines. Sigmund Freud offered a psycho analytic viewpoint on the diagnosis and understanding of a person’s mental health. Other perspectives, the behavioristic paradigm offers to see this in a different light. The psychoanalytic perspective emphasizes childhood experiences and the role of the unconscious mind in determining future behavior and in explaining and understanding current based on past behavior.Basing on his personality constructs of the Id, Ego and the Superego, Freud sees a mentally healthy person as possessing what he calls Ego strength. On the other hand, the behavior therapist sees a person as a â€Å"learner† in his environment, with the brain as his primary organ of survival and vehicle for acquiring his social functioning. With this paradigm, mental health is a result of the environment’s impact on the person; he learns to fear or to be happy and therein lies the important key in understanding a person’s mental state.Considering that the achievement and maintenance of mental health is one of the pursuits of psychology, the following is a brief outline of what psychologists would endorse a healthy lifestyle. The individual must consider each of the following and incorporate these in his/her day to day affairs: 1. The Medical doctor’s viewpoint – well-being emphasis than the illness model 2. The Spiritual viewpoint- a vital spiritual growth must be on check. 3. The Psychologist’s viewpoint- emotional and relationship factors in balance.4. The Nutritionist’s viewpoint – putting nutrition and health as top priority. 5. The Fitness Expert’s viewpoint- Exercise as part of a daily regimen. The theory I have in mind then is an amalgamation of several approaches, primarily the integration of the Christian worldview and the theories set forth by Cognitive-behaviorists and psychoanalytic models, and biological/physical continuum. There are other good models but a lot of reasons exist why they cannot be â€Å"good enough; † a lot depends on my own personality.Being authentic to who you are, your passion, is effectively communicated across an audience whether it is a negative or positive one. The basic way of doing the â€Å"amalgamation† or integration is that the Christian worldview takes precedence over the rest of the approaches. Although many of the concepts and premises of each theory mentioned are sound and at times efficacious, when it clashes with the faith-based theory, the former must give way to the latter. It is understood then, that I thoroughly examined each of the theory and set them against the backdrop of spirituality. Interpreting a problem that a client suffers for instance, entails that the theoretical viewpoint that I am convinced with, has better chances of properly understanding the maladjustments that the client had been suffering. To come up with the balanced worldview (an integration in other words), the balance between the realms mentioned, including the true fr ame of human individuals and the true nature of God (or theology) are properly considered.Thoroughly accepting the fact that there is no contest between the natural and the spiritual; only that troubles arise when one realm is overemphasized at the expense of another. This thin line or slight tension between the two levels is best expressed in the personhood of Jesus Christ, who was a perfect man as well as God. If we start to equate ourselves with that notion (which is usually happening) and we start to think that we are balanced, then we surely lack understanding or real self-awareness of the fact that we are deeply and seriously out of balance and this is one reason why we need help.B. Philosophy and Basic Assumptions ~What does a mentally healthy person look like and how are his traits different from those who are mentally ill or are developing a certain form of illness. Personality is more than poise, charm, or physical appearance. It includes habits, attitudes, and all the phy sical, emotional, social, religious and moral aspects that a person possesses. However, to be more precise, the explicit behavioral styles covered in the course, perhaps, best captivate an individual’s personality and how he/she is understood. With the different behavioral styles, an overall pattern of various characteristics is seen. Like a â€Å"psychograph,† a person’s profile is pulled together and at a glance, the individual can be compared with other people in terms of relative strengths and weaknesses. The term mentally ill is frightening to many people. Movies, books, and magazines often depict mental illness in frightening ways. In some cases, adolescents suffering from a mental illness do act unpredictably or even dangerously. With proper diagnosis and treatment, most of the symptoms of mental illnesses can be controlled. It is tempting to distinguish healthy adolescents from adolescents with mental illness problems. However, there is often a fine line b etween mental health and mental illness. It is important to understand that mental illnesses vary in their severity. For example, many adolescents suffered from various levels of anxiety or depression. Others have suffered from serious mental disorders with biological origins. Education about the adolescents` mental illness is vital for those with mental health problems as well as for the adolescents` friends and family. Many of the disorders or mental illnesses recognized today without a doubt have their psychodynamic explanation aside from other viewpoints like that of the behaviourist, or the cognitivists. From simple childhood developmental diseases to Schizophrenia, there is a rationale that from Freud’s camp is able to explain (Kaplan et al, 1994). ~ What constitutes a mentally/emotionally healthy person and what causes a person to become dysfunctional? The Christian point of view argues that man is not necessarily or inherently good and that starts him off to a bad star t.The environment further either encourages that innate evil or tones it down. However, the basic idea is that there is a spiritual aspect and this is addressed in what the Christian Scriptures declare as the â€Å"renewing of the mind. † Because this is an integrated approach, it recognizes the work of science with the concept or understanding that it only confirms what Scripture recognizes or identifies all along. Psychology reminds us of the differing opinions of experts in this field. It talks about personality which represents all that the mind, or the mental and affective aspects of a person.People talk a lot about personality or behavior as if it’s such an uncomplicated and unfussy concept, but they end up having difficulty defining it when asked. They are apt to say that it (behavior or personality in general) is something a person â€Å"has. † They describe the behavioral components of particular people in words like â€Å"friendly,† â€Å"nice, † â€Å"forceful,† or â€Å"aggressive,† to paint a picture of what they mean by the term and as a result end, instead, in vague descriptions of how a person usually behaves with other people. On the other hand, when we base our descriptions on concrete and observable actions that people commonly do or adapt, we come up with what experts call as â€Å"behavioral profile. † There are different styles of behavior as well as there are no right and wrong profile. When we come up with correct profiling, the expected result is that we develop ways of getting to know a more concise and accurate picture of ourselves, or people in general. Personality is more than poise, charm, or physical appearance. It includes habits, attitudes, and all the physical, emotional, social, religious and moral aspects that a person possesses. A healthy personality does not mean it does not have any difficulties at all. It means that a person has the capabilities to withstand any turmoil or stress that come his way.He has learned the skills to make him adjust to the internal and external stresses; minimizing conflicts from within and without but in a healthy and normal functioning way. ~ How does personal growth occur in the context of your therapy? Personal growth occurs in the context of self-insights; insights concerning the workings of one’s mind in relation to the structures and stimuli around the person. He self-insight is very significant and crucial to the client for him to be able to work well with t hose who are there to assist in his recovery and eventual personal growth. †¢ What makes your theory work?Christian counselors are prepared to help their clients sort the distinctions and similarities between psychology and the Christian faith? This is important because basic to therapy success is that when therapist and client share similar worldviews, the therapy may then advance. Moreover, do Christian counselors and those in this kind of profession really pursue real interest and deep thirst for a systematic and regular study of the Bible? If they do not do so, they will be deficient of the overall grasp of the Bible’s structure and content and lack a working knowledge of basic biblical doctrines.A deep and thriving relationship and commitment to an equally gifted Bible – believing church will also benefit the counselor in his/her personal life and practice, thus a necessary requirement,. C. Key Concepts ~ Explain the primary points of your theory as if you we re to summarize it quickly for someone The Psychodynamic perspective is based on the work of Sigmund Freud. He created both a theory to explain personality and mental disorders, and the form of therapy known as psychoanalysis. The psychodynamic approach assumes that all behavior and mental processes reflect constant and often unconscious struggles within the person. These usually involved conflicts between our need to satisfy basic biological instincts, for example, for food, sex or aggression, and the restrictions imposed by society. Not all of those who take a psychodynamic approach accept all of Freud’s original ideas, but most would view abnormal or problematic behavior as the result of a failure to resolve conflicts adequately. Many of the disorders or mental illnesses recognized today without a doubt have their psychodynamic explanation aside from other viewpoints like that of the behaviourist, or the cognitivists. From simple childhood developmental diseases to Schizophr enia, there is a rationale that from Freud’s camp is able to explain (Kaplan et al, 1994). In the psychodynamic theory, the following three assumptions help guide a student of human behavior or an expert in this field determine the underlying factors that explain the overt manifestations of specific behaviors. These assumptions therefore, help guide the diagnosis of the presence or absence of mental illness. They are the same assumptions that guide the therapist in choosing what treatment that will better help heal, cure or alleviate the symptoms. These assumptions are: – â€Å"There are instinctive urges that drive personality formation. † – â€Å"Personality growth is driven by conflict and resolving anxieties. † – â€Å"Unresolved anxieties produce neurotic symptoms† (Source: Kaplan et al, 1994). The goals of treatment here include alleviating patient of the symptoms which specifically works to uncover and work through unconscious c onflict. The task of psychodynamic therapy is â€Å"to make the unconscious conscious to the patient† (â€Å"Models of abnormality†, National Extension College Trust, Ltd). Employing the psychodynamic viewpoint, the therapist or social scientist believes that emotional conflicts, or neurosis, and/or disturbances in the mind are caused by unresolved conflicts which originated during childhood years. In the psychodynamic approach the treatment modality frequently used includes dreams and free association, at times hypnosis (as preferred by either the therapist or by the client). The therapist actively communicates with the client in the on-going sessions. The scenario appears that a given patient may have up to five times a week session and runs up to five years in length (Rubinstein et al. , 2007). Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy postulated primarily by Ellis and Beck â€Å"facilitates a collaborative relationship between the patient and therapist. † With the idea tha t the counselor and patient together cooperate to attain a trusting relationship and agree which problems or issues need to come first in the course of the therapy. For the Cognitive Behaviorist Therapist, the immediate and presenting problem that the client is suffering and complaining from takes precedence and must be addressed and focused in the treatment. There is instantaneous relief from the symptoms, and may be encouraged or spurred on to pursue in-depth treatment and reduction of the ailments where possible. The relief from the symptoms from the primary problem or issue will inspire the client to imagine or think that change is not impossible after all.In this model, issues are dealt directly in a practical way. In the cognitive approach alone, the therapist understands that a client or patient comes into the healing relationship and the former’s role is to change or modify the latter’s maladjusted or error-filled thinking patterns. These patterns may include wi shful thinking, unrealistic expectations, constant reliving and living in the past or even beyond the present and into the future, and overgeneralizing. These habits lead to confusion, frustration and eventual constant disappointment. This therapeutic approach stresses or accentuates the rational or logical and positive worldview: a viewpoint that takes into consideration that we are problem-solvers, have options in life and not that we are always left with no choice as many people think. It also looks into the fact that because we do have options then there are many things that await someone who have had bad choices in the past, and therefore can look positively into the future. Just as the cognitive-behavioral model also recognizes the concept of insight as well, this is only a matter of emphasis or focus. In behavioral/cognitive-behavioral therapies the focus is on the modification or control of behavior and insight usually becomes a tangential advantage. Techniques include CBT thr ough such strategy as cognitive restructuring and the current frequently used REBT for Rational Emotive-Behavior Therapy where irrational beliefs are eliminated by examining them in a rational manner (Corey, 2004; Davison and Neale, 2001). Whereas in insight therapies the focus or emphasis is on the patient’s ability in understanding his/her issues basing on his inner conflicts, motives and fears.Coaching the patient on the step by step procedure of CBT is a basic and fundamental ingredient. Here the client is enlightened as to the patterns of his thinking and the errors of these thoughts which bore fruit in his attitudes and behavior. His/her thoughts and beliefs have connections on his/her behavior and must therefore be â€Å"reorganized. † For instance, the ways that a client looks at an issue of his/her life will direct the path of his reactivity to the issue. When corrected at this level, the behavior follows automatically (Rubinstein et al. , 2007; Corey, 2004). D. Therapeutic Goals~ What are your general goals in therapy? Christian counseling admittedly embraces in reality, a basic integration of the biblical precepts on the view of man and psychology’s scientific breakthroughs in addressing the dilemmas that beset human individuals. Depending on the persuasion of the practitioner, especially whether he or she comes from either the purely theological or â€Å"secular† preparation, Christian counseling can either lean to certain degrees of theology or psychology. According to Larry Crabb, â€Å"If psychology offers insights which will sharpen our counseling skills and increase our effectiveness, we want to know them.If all problems are at core spiritual matters we don’t want to neglect the critically necessary resources available through the Lord by a wrong emphasis on psychological theory† (Crabb in Anderson et al, 2000). Dr. Crabb’s position certainly ensures that science in particular, has its place in counseling in as much as theology does. He made sure that all means are addressed as the counselor approaches his profession, especially in the actual conduction of both the diagnostic and therapeutic or intervention phases (Crabb in Anderson et al. , 2000).Trauma inducing and crisis triggering situations have spiraled its occurrence and in its primacy in the US and in many other countries in recent years. Its broad spectrum ranges from the national disaster category such as that of Hurricane Katrina or the 911 terrorist strikes in New York, Spain and England, to private instances such as a loved one’s attempt at suicide, the murder of a spouse or child, the beginning of mental illness, and the worsening situation of domestic violence (Teller et al, 2006).The acute crisis episode is a consequence of people who experience life-threatening events and feel overwhelmed with difficulty resolving the inner conflicts or anxiety that threaten their lives. They seek the help of counse lors, paramedics and other health workers in crisis intervention centers to tide them over the acute episodes they are encountering. These are defining moments for people and must be adequately addressed else they lead lives with dysfunctional conduct patterns or disorders (Roberts et al, 2006).
