Till the time humanitarianal benefit exceeds additional cost, the individual or the firm has to continue taking action so as to ensure that all excess benefits are accrued and vice versa. The model explains that loyalty to an organization is a psychological state, and that it has terzetto distinct components that affect how employees feel about the organization that they work for. The three components are1. warmness for your barter (affective perpetration).2. Fear of qualifying (continuance committal).3. Sense of obligation to stay (normative perpetration). We can use this model to increase commitment and engagement in your team, while withal helping have to experience a greater tang of well-being and job satisfaction. Lets look at each of Meyer and Allens three theatrical roles of commitment in greater detail. Affection for Your Job (Affective Commitment)Affection for you r job occurs when you feel a strong emotional attachment to your organization, and to the work that you do. Youll nearly likely identify with the organizations goals and values, and you genuinely exigency to be there. If youre enjoying your work, youre likely to feel good, and be satisfied with your job. In turn, this increased job satisfaction is likely to add to your feeling of affective commitment. Fear of Loss (Continuance Commitment)This type of commitment occurs when you weigh up the pros and cons of leavingyour organization. You may feel that you need to stay at your company, because the loss youd experience by leaving it is greater than the benefit you think you might gain in a new role. These perceived losses, or side bets, can be monetary (youd lose salary and benefits) schoolmaster (you might lose seniority or role-related skills that youve spent years acquiring) or social (youd lose friendships or allies). The severity of these losses practically increases with age an d experience. Youre more likely to experience continuance commitment if youre in an established, successful role, or if youve had several promotions within one organization. Sense of agreement to Stay (Normative Commitment)This type of commitment occurs when you feel a sense of obligation to your organization, even if youre un euphoric in your role, or even if you want to pursue better opportunities. You feel that you should stay with your organization, because its the right thing to do. This sense of obligation can stem from several factors. You might feel that you should remain with your organization because it has invested money or time in your training. Or perhaps it provided a reward in advance, such as paying for your college tuition. This obligation can to a fault result from your upbringing. For instance, your family might have stressed that you should stay loyal to your organization. NoteThese three types of commitment are not mutually exclusive. You can experience all thr ee, or two of the three, in varying degrees. Applying the Model at our TMBAffection for Your Job (Affective Commitment)We are very fortunate in having dedicated employees at all levels who have been energetic and working with untiring zeal for the good growth and prosperity of the institution for the past 92 years. Sense of Obligation to Stay (Normative Commitment)In our organization, some officers from STEP programme feel a sense of normative commitment since our organization has invested a lot in their training and development. Since they have been con tracted for 5 years, they could not able to switch job even if they got better opportunity. To overcome this we are likely to develop affective commitment through explaining them about their growth in this esteemed organization and make them to feel experience positive emotions at their work. Further, we will encourage these people to thrive, and to enjoy the work that theyre doing. We make sure that we give measure regularly, and create a healthy workplace , so that these kind of people will be happy and productive.ASSIGNMENT IVChange is a common thread that runs through all businesses regardless of size, industry and age. Our world is ever-ever-changing fast and, as such, organizations must dislodge quickly too. Organizations that handle change well thrive, whilst those that do not may struggle to survive. The concept of change management is a familiar one in most businesses today. But, howbusinesses manage change (and how successful they are at it) varies enormously depending on the temper of the business, the change and the people involved. And a key part of this depends on how far people within it encounter the change process. One of the cornerstone models for apprehending organizational change was developed by Kurt Lewin back in the 1950s, and still holds true today. His model is known as Unfreeze Change Refreeze, refers to the three- stagecoach process of change he describes. Lewin, a physicist as well as social scientist, explained organizational change using the analogy of changing the shape of a block of ice Lewins Three-Step Model For Implementing ChangeUnfreezeThis first stage of change involves preparing the organization to accept that change is necessary, which involves break down the existing status quo before you can build up a new way of operating. Key to this is developing a compelling sum showing why the existing way of doing things cannot continue. This is easiest to frame when you can point to declining sales figures, poor financi al results, worrying customer satisfaction surveys, or suchlike These show that things have to change in a way that everyone can understand. To prepare the organization successfully, you need to start at its core you need to argufy the beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviors that truely define it.Using the analogy of a building, you must examine and be prepared to change the existing foundations as they might not support add-on storeys unless this is through with(p), the whole building may bump collapse. This first part of the change process is usually the most difficult and stressful. When you start cutting down the way things are done, you put everyone and everything off balance. You may evoke strong reactions in people, and thats exactly what take to done. By forcing the organization to re-examine its core, you effectively create a (controlled) crisis, which in turn can build a strong need to seek out a new equilibrium. Without this motivation, you wont get the buy-in an d participation necessary to effect any meaningful change. ChangeAfter the uncertainty created in the unfreeze stage, the change stage is where people begin to resolve their uncertainty and look for new ways to dothings. concourse start to believe and act in ways that support the new direction. The transition from unfreeze to change does not happen overnight People take time to embrace the new direction and participate proactively in the change. A related change model, the Change Curve , focuses on the specific issue of ad hominem transitions in a changing environment and is useful for understanding this specific aspect in more detail. In order to accept the change and contribute to making the change successful, people need to understand how the changes will benefit them. Not everyone will fall in line just because the change is necessary and will benefit the company. This is a common assumption and pitfall that should be avoided. Time and communication are the two keys to success for the changes to occur. People need time to understand the changes and they also need to feel highly connected to the organization throughout the transition period. When you are managing change, this can require a great deal of time and effort and hands-on management is usually the best approach. RefreezeWhen the changes are taking shape and people have embraced the new ways of working, the organization is posit to refreeze. The outward signs of the refreeze are a stable organization chart, consistent job descriptions, and so on. The refreeze stage also needs to help people and the organization interiorise or institutionalize the changes. This means making sure that the changes are used all the time and that they are incorporated into everyday business. With a new sense of stability, employees feel confident and comfortable with the new ways of working. The rationale for creating a new sense of stability in our every changing world is often questioned.Even though change is a co nstant in many organizations, this refreezing stage is still important. Without it, employees get caught in a transition trap where they arent sure how things should be done, so nothing ever gets done to full capacity. In the absence of a new frozen state, it is very difficult to tackle the next change initiative effectively. How do you go about convincing people that something needs changing if you havent allowed the most recent changes to sink in? Change will be perceived as change for changes sake, and the motivation required to implement new changes simply wont be there. As part of the Refreezing process, make sure that you celebrate the success of the change this helps people to find closure, thanks them for enduring a painful time, and helps them believe that future change will be successful.Applying the model at TMB At our bank we have followed the Lewins Three-Step Model while implementing our New Logo UnfreezeEven though our Bank has been established in 1921, the logotype was set for the bank only in 1962. Literature ans society Essay Example for Free

literature ans society EssayThe literature of an bestride, and its genial set up keeping and reacting one over the other. Literature influences the society society is reflected in Literature and in this way, in solely languages and at all times there has been a close interaction between the two. Literature of any age cannot circumvent the influence of the cordial scene and therefore is prime reflecting the society of the age when it is created. The poet, the dramatist, the novelist, the essayist are all the product of their age and their-age openly and clearly gets imaged in their compositions. That cannot be helped, it so seems.Takethe example of two literatures English and Hindi. Chaucer is called the father of English rhyme and actually English literature in its form and language which kept on developing and improving, begins from him. His most good example work is the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales and then the Canterbury Tales. All the characters painted in t hese tales are the true representation of the types of such mess as they were in his times. While Chaucer is a reflector of those characters and their types of his age he is virtually and truly depict as the chronicler of his age his characters whether aKnight the Prioress the monk, the fat fryer, the sailor, the squire, the priest all are truly the instances of their types in the contemporary society as they actually were.Chaucer is a painter as well as a critic of his society. Shakespeare the greatest dramatist of English language one of the greatest of all languages brings in ghosts, witches, and courtier and fools in his plays which were as per the liking of his audience and a part of the English Society of his times. That is what is rightly give tongue to more or less Shakespeare that in addition to the normal three unitiesTime, Place and Action in drama, he brought about the fourth unity unity with the people. That encomium clearly Shakespeare being influenced by the society of his age and in his plays he, though never gave any message or pronounced any philosophy, but that is of all time there the triumph of the good over the evil. This was the message that was most needed to his age after all that had happened earlier Henry VIII the king having been killed, Mary Tudor a despotic, arrogant, a cruel pattern and then a benevolent, all embracing middle-path follower queen Queen Elizabeth. As is the king so are the people is an old but true saying and Shakespeare reflects that hilarious sometimes, but somber and philosophic at the other in his plays. Hulton was very much the product of his age. A truly puritanical somebody a deeply religious man, he gave to his age which was battling with belief and disbelief the message of Gods triumph over Satan. The Eighteenth century of English literature is a true product of the age. The hearty scene had degenerated into debauchery and license after the Restoration of Charles II who brought alongwith him all that he had enjoyed during his ostracize and adjourns in France and the literature of that period reflects all that was happening in the society. Alexander Popes go bad of the Lock is a reflection of the so-called lascivious high society of and pungent satire too, on all that was too much too bad for the society. Thus Pope is a reflector as a corrector of his age.So are Addison and Steele as essayists. Balzac, Zola, Maupassant of France had cast their influence on every Wycherley, conserve and ulterior on Restoration dramatists who had gone to the lowest depth in describing affectionate disparity and this is how literature reflected the age.The French whirling a very significant political and social event of Europe had as its basic tenets Equality, confederacy and Liberty and these tenets and the revolution did cast its spell all over Europe and England and the English poets could not escape that influence. Wordsworth was move by the humanitarian aspect of the rev olution in the earlier phase but later its bloodiness and violence disillusioned him and all this is reflected in Wordsworths poetry poet of man and in his later poetry. Shelley was moved by the revolutions spirit of revolution and Byron by its fighting spirit.Tennyson was a true representative of the Victorian age and render of the glories of the Empire while his nature poetry gets influenced by the advancement of knowledge in the later nineteenth century. He did not remain a priest of nature as Wordsworth was because where science advances religion declines. Charles Dickens saw the backside of industrialization the piteous getting Poorer and the rich richer the sufferings of the poor are ignored and his novels reflect all this. The First World War (1914-19) created a group of who sang of the glories of warfare, of chivalry andSacrifice for the nation and then there is the post w poetry and post-war drama Bernard Shaw dramatist known for his pungent satire, pricking the ballo on of romanticism associated with war heroism and love in his ordnance and the Man.Eliot comes on the literary stage to deal with the utter disillusionment of the age in his waste product all this about English Literature. Similarly in Hindi Literature, when Prithvi Raj Chauhan was fighting valiantly with Mohammad Gori Chandrabardai the warrior poet was singing of the glories of war and his hero in his Prithvi Raj Raso. Then came the Bhakti Kal the period of Bhakti the country and the nation had fallen under the Muslim bitstock and there were class conflicts on the basis of faith and religion. There came on the literary scene, Kabir, who preached anti-fanaticism pricked the bloated balloon of superstitions and filmdom faiths and admonished both mullahs and Pandits and showed the way of God. Tulsidas found the Hindu society divided into factions Shaivas and Vaishnavas and showed the path of love, brotherhood and mutual deference for all Gods and presented the ideals of a son, a brother, a wife, and a devotee. The triumph of Ram the incarnation of the Good over Ravan, the symbol of Evil is an eternal lesson given by him to the society whose lessons remain revered even trough today. The period of comparative social peace created a set of poets who indulged in pleasing their patrons the Kings as their courtiers and songsters. Their poetry is full of amorous sports in which they make Krishna a Radha and the Gopis their actors a very wrong a vitiate depiction unbecoming of those great. This was done just to gratify their patrons the sensuous and sensual kings. This is how the social scene was reflecting itself in literature. Then, comes the modern age. The British were ruling India and there were classes close to the ruler and classes suffering at the hands of the officials and at the hands of the so-called elite of the society. There were classes created the superior, the downtrodden the imperialists and the nationalists. Prem Chand the great noveli st unravels this class fight in his novels and thereby, not completely reflects the society of his times but gives a lesson too. His novels, his short stories all have a lesson to give. There was Bhartendu Harishchandra the poet the bode of the modern age and thought, who successfully caricatured the classes social and religious thus reflecting the social scene with a bloom to reform it. Thus goes on the scene. Maithili Saran Gupta the Gandhian poet sings of the glory of Ram, of the glory of Lord Buddha, of the glory of other fabulous heroes his thrust throughout being to inflame the masses and enlighten them into cordial social contacts. The national earnestness reverberated through the veins of the Psyche under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and poetsafter poets, writers after writers sang of the of our ancient land and its culture. Jai Sanker rasad, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, the poets Dharmvir Shrilal Shukla the novelists brought into focalisation the inequalities and i mbalances that plagued the social scene and through their thoughtful and sometimes highly satirical way brought to the fore the social and political malaise through which our present generation passing. This true presentation has been with a purpose to awaken the social conscience to the problems that dog the people. Literature thus has been holding the mirror up to Nature on one hand reflecting all traditions, trends and tendencies while rising up the finger of caution too to take hold against all that goes against the basic values of life.Literature and Society have remained and shall remain ever intertwined and the more they so remain, the more solid would the foundations be laid for a sustained growth a well-coordinated growth and a corrected social order Literature has to play its part as a reflector and a corrector of society and society has to inspire men of letters to keep themselves on their guard towards their mission of social good.

Community Service Essay Example for Free

alliance Service Es label corporation swear bring out is very important because it helps build character, which is something that the Dalton School and the Detroit News would assent with me on. Having fraternity attend to as a requirement to calibrate is a good idea as long as the student can choose what type of community service they want to do because it forces students to go out in their community and help others. Community Service doesnt have to have a negative printing on large number, it can and usually has a good effect. Willie Grothman and Tim Phang are twain full(prenominal) school students who started a community service club that helped a lot of people in their community. Community service can be extremely valuable in the development of both character, academics and it features students a mishap to give back to their community. Community service builds character because after accomplishing something, it gives people a feel of gaiety and accomplishment t hat makes students feel good about themselves. The Dalton School believes when an individual goes out in the world and interacts with other people in the spirit of bettering, that individual makes a contribution and will feel a disposition of accomplishment. But on the other hand, some people argue that it is wrong to force students into doing community service. Arthur Stukas, stone Snyder, and E. Gil Clary said students were less appropriateed even if they had a choice of community service. These scientists also say that researchers have found that students who initially did non want to volunteer found that they actually enjoyed helping others if requirements were apply gently and with their input and involvement in the process. In my opinion that is what we want to happen when students are multiform in community service. From graph two that Mark Hugo presents is that community service has a high pass judgment from the students who are educationally successful which shows tha t community service can have a positive affect on people. In the Detroit News, they talked about a thirteen year-old boy named John Prueter and the type of community service he did and the positive affect it had on him. He volunteered at the Alterra Sterling House, an assisted living theater in Hampton Township. From this experience from John, he now wants to study nursing and he said he became enkindle in the field because of his volunteer work. This shows the positive result of community service because it can also slip by you into the career path you would have never known you liked until you volunteered. Putting time into your community is a way of giving back. The Dalton School says the moral center of a community, that place where we can find the value of empathy, compassion, and caring, is the basis for civic responsibility and the success of that community. In the capital of the United States Post by Tara Bahrampour, she writes about two high school students, Willie Grothm an and Tim Phang of Washington- Lee High School experienced the success of community service. They formed a community service club called the Willie Grothman Club and they held things like walking for AIDS, for the homeless and for breast cancer in an event in which they took turns walking relays all night around a track in the rain. For these events they pull in pledges of money from friends and family members for each mile they walked or each bowling pin they knocked down. These guys were some of the most shake up people because they were not just helping their community, but the people in their community who were homeless, had AIDS, etc. non only did this club change the members lives, but also it changed the lives of others around them, and the people they were helping. Community service does not have to be a negative because it can always turn into a positive. In the Dalton School, the Washington Post, the Detroit News, and Arthur Stukas, Mark Snyder, E. Gil Clary, and Mark Hu go, they all helped me determine that community service should be a requirement to graduate because it can change peoples lives for the better. Thank you for reading my essay but I have another question, which doorway sounds better, the one above or this one Community service is very important because it helps build character.Having community service as a requirement to graduate is a good idea because it forces students to go out in their community and help others. Community Service doesnt have to have a negative effect on students, it can have a good effect or no effect at all. Willie Grothman and Tim Phang two high school students who started a community service club that helped a lot of people in their community-, The Dalton School, and The Detroit News- who did a story on John Prueter- would agree that community service is important. Community service can be extremely valuable in the development of both character, academics and it gives students a chance to give back to their community.

Legal philosophy Essay Example for Free

Legal philosophy stressThe crucial element lies in bringing the guilty to justice but for that to happen, it has to be mildewd starting time who is guilty and who is not, not just in terms of who committed the crime, but whether a certain military action and the consequences of it f entirely under the category of crime at all, and under what criteria. There is a great electron orbit of ambiguity and fuzziness here. The battle between practiced and evil seems to have been going on for all the time, and yet favourable and evil argon highly relative terms. There exist no open distinctions, no separate black and white segments. In many ways, good and evil constitute a messy flux, and criminal justice system is needed to sort these things out on a unceasing basis. Law, with the moral and legal philosophy underlying it, directs the criminal justice system in this complex job of determining good from evil, the rightly from the wrong, as well as the right from the good. These laws are not dormant and fixed entities, they can and do change with time legal philosophy is constantly evolving. Our perceptions and interpretations of the good and the right need to be reconsidered from time to time. The ongoing struggle is to evolve a society that is more steadfastly based on justice and freedom. Justice requires that each citizen have an equal and fair starting model in obeisance of the physical necessities, educational opportunities, and employment opportunities. And the rule of freedom requires that the government not persuasiveness a single conception of the good upon individuals, but simply guarantee that individuals are free to dog their various goods as they perceive them (Garner 2005).The superiors freely made reflect a variety of views of what is good. Human beings are uniquely individual personalities, endowed with immense potentiality for mental and spiritual growth. The role of society lies in being caring and tolerant about the individual and the differences in the unique individualities of people, and displaying a commitment to respect all its members who are in the process of cultivating their freedom and realizing their potentiality. It is not the governments business or right to determine what is good, but only to guarantee justice and freedom of choice to individuals. The guarantee of justice and freedom of choice will protect individuals pursuits of their various private conceptions of the good. In this way, the government ensures The greatest good for the greatest number, the principle on which utilitarianism is founded (Penslar 1995). Each individual is free to pursue his or her own conception of the good life, as long as it does not bring harm to others. The government should be neutral as to the conceptions of the good life, in order to respect persons as free and independent agents of action, capable of choosing their own ends. For example, the good lies in the fact of each individual being free to follow a rel igion or printing system of his own choice, or not to follow any should he choose to. Unfortunately, this condition is actually likely to be violated in modern world where fundamentalism is gaining ground e genuinelyday. If we take the United States, for example, tether things are happening 1) Evangelical Christianity is spreading like wild fire The Evangelical Christian gesture is the fastest growing segment of American religion with 42% of all Christians in America identifying themselves as Evangelicals (Cobia 2007) 2) as is common knowledge, the government is growing more powerful and centralized, and 3) a very high region of people in the government, including the president himself, are fundamentalist evangelical Christians (McMahon 2006).In such a scenario, it is very likely that, in the near future, basic individual freedom to choose his or her own would be breached and fundamentalism be imposed as a state-sponsored religion. When that happens, the theory of evolution wil l be removed from textbooks and scriptural doctrine of creationism taught in its place.Science would stagnate, progress would stop, and humanity may slip back to dark ages. Upon considering such a possibility, we can see how ensuring individual freedom to determine ones own good is conducive to the good of the society as a whole, promotes progress and enlightens humanity. When individual freedom is lost, be it in religion or any other sphere of life, the spirit of humanity starts dying.

Conflict with Macbeth and World War Poetry Essay Example for Free

Conflict with Macbeth and reality War Poetry EssayDuring this essay I am personnel casualty to write about the many diverse rooms in which action is presented in William Shakespe bes Macbeth and Wilfred Owens Poetry of World War 1. I will be comparing the ways in which Macbeth and 3 poems write by Owen Mental Cases, The Next War and Dulce Et Decorum Est, link with each different. Macbeth is a meet written in 1606 by Shakespe be who wrote plays to entertain his au pausence. On the other hand, Owen was a soldier in World War 1 when he wrote famous poems he wrote them to tell us about the tragedies of warfare and he expressed his thoughts and feelings about war and booking. Owens poems are influenced by his own experiences of war. In Macbeth the conflict portrayn by Macbeth and the other characters, gives us an idea of how Macbeths rivalry surrounded by certain characters in the play picture the whole play itself. For example, Macbeths conflict with King Duncan set ups how Macbeth was such an easy target for the witches because they predicted he would be the next Thane of Cawdor which came true, then they predicted he would be the next King, but when Duncan announced Malcolm to be the next successor to the throne, Macbeth become insecure and had the thoughts of killing Duncan.I fork over no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but merely vaulting ambition which oerleaps itself Macbeths excessive ambition is the like a horse that tries to cut too high but it falls on the other side of the fence, also Shakespeare uses a allegory to describe Macbeths ambition as vaulting like a horse. Shakespeare brings the idea of Macbeth killing Duncan to spirit. Similarly, Wilfred Owen presents the conflict in his poems in ways which he relent slightly unveils the full scale of the wars horrors. For example, in Owens poem Mental Cases, the conflict the soldiers dedicate with the violent conditions they had to live in, Owen presents the kind torment suff ered by the patients in this poem. He uses the simile like a wound to show that their wounds are still lively and present in their minds. The words such as blade and bleeds afresh suggest that they assimilate been savagely ripped open by the conflict happening in their minds. Owens poem Mental Cases shows us the mental anguish the soldiers had to go through during the World War. He uses the simile baring teeth that leak like skulls, teeth wicked to describe the soldiers as skeletons because theyre half dead from fighting continuously in the war this shows how the poems title Mental Cases links with the whole concept of the soldiers being half dead because their minds have been taken over bythe trauma of the war.Batter of guns and shatter of transient muscles the use of violent tomography to emphasise the way in which the soldiers are continuously surrounded by gun-shots (batter of guns) and dead bodies (flying muscles). Dawn breaks open like a wound that bleeds afresh Owen us es a simile, also a personified style to highlight the way the soldiers wake up to constant violence around them. Wilfred Owen uses words such as skulls to show that the soldiers were like skeletons half dead. Also he uses ravished to give more power to the poem, to demonstrate that the horrors have taken over the soldiers minds. This poem links with Macbeth due to the way in which Macbeth is mentally tortured because of the crimes hes committed which are now acting upon him, just the way the patients are mentally tormented because of the tragic war. Shakespeare uses the personified phrase art thou not fatal vision sensible to feeling as to sight? to accentuate that Macbeth can only see the dagger in his mind but its not really there.Heres the smell of ancestry still, all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten Shakespeare manipulates the use of the senses to show that Lady Macbeth is saying that there is no perfume of this world which shall sweeten our unholy hands which emphas ises that Lady Macbeth still thinks about the carrying out of King Duncan. Shakespeare also uses the simile that not formulation like inhabitants othe earth to show that the witches arent humans they dont belong to the earth. If it were through with(p) when tis done, then twere well it were done quickly Shakespeare presents the idea of past and present to kill Duncan quickly would be better. Thy bones are marrowless, thy contention of business is cold Macbeth says to the ghost of Banquo he has no marrow in his bones, his beginning is cold. Shakespeare uses words such as fatal to show the mental torment Macbeth is going through whilst he sees the dagger in his mind. Also he uses inhabitants to describe the way the witches catch they dont look like they live on earth. In Owens poem The Next War he presents the midland conflict of the war because the poem is based on the idea of not being afraid of finis but getting used to the fact that death comes e rattlingday to them. In t he beginning of the poem Owen has written a quote from Siegfried Sassoon wars a joke for me and you, while we know such dreams are true this is an preposterous sonnet because sonnets are usually on love and romance, but this one is on war. Owen uses personification like out there weve walked quite friendly up to Death sat low and eaten with him, cool and bland to emphasise that mostly all the soldiers are used to seeing people die and when death comes its normal for them. Also Owen describes death as cool and bland these are oxymorons because they have an unusual perspective of war. Hes spat at us with bullets and hes coughed Owen uses personification to show how death has tortured the soldiers. Owen uses many language techniques to bring the idea of welcoming death to the soldiers lives. Wilfred Owen uses words like courageousness to emphasise the soldiers characters. Also he uses green thick odour to represent the odour as the poisonous gas that caused many soldiers deaths. T his poem links with Macbeth because in this poem Owen talks about the courage these soldiers had and how they got used to seeing their men die all the time, however, in Macbeth, Macbeth is looked at as brave Macbeth who has disdaining chance because he won the battle for Scotland and was looked at as a hero. For brave Macbeth well he deserves that defecate disdaining fortune, with his brandishd steel Shakespeare describes Macbeth as a courageous warrior. However, during the play we find out that Macbeth has plotted to kill Duncan, but then feels a slight regret in going fourth with the murder we will proceed no further in this business. He hath honourd me of late, and I have bought golden opinions from all sorts of people. In this scene, Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeths manliness and makes him feel like he less of a man And live a coward in thine own esteem. But screw your courage to the sticking place Shakespeare uses a metaphor here to show the power in which Lady Macbeth has s he asks Macbeth to abridge his courage to the limit, so he can go fourth and kill Duncan.Lady Macbeth tries to convince him by calling him a coward and unmanly. Macbeth is convinced enough to murder Duncan which tear downtually lead to his own down fall. Dulce Et Decroum Est subject matter Die for Your Country is another famous poem of Wilfred Owens where it links to battlefield conflict and informal conflict. The poem is based on the whole concept of war, and how the soldiers fight for their country throughout the world war. bent on(p) double like old beggars, coughing like hags Owen uses both similes to describe the soldiers as beggars and hags, due to the way they live in. Men marched asleep this use of characterisation brings to life the way in which the soldiers were continuously marchland during their days, and nights. Owen also uses an oxymoron to bring sarcasm into the poemof gas shells dropping softly behind gas shells are usually very loud and dangerous but Owen makes out the gas shells were soft. As infra a green sea I saw him drowning. a metaphor to describe the poisonous gas, and Owens persona of his friend drowning in the gas. Guttering, choking, and drowning the use of onomatopoeia gives effect of the way in which Owen presents the conflict of the war. Owen also uses personified techniques to show the inner conflict of how the soldiers minds were taken over by the tragic war If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood the effect that Owen uses to hear the blood.Owen gives the impression that these soldiers are broken and describes them to be helpless. Wilfred Owen uses words such as deaf from the gun shots and bombs and blind from the tear gas and smoke he uses pitiful language to advertise the reality of war. This poem links with Macbeth, because Owen talks about the way in which the soldiers die for their country and linking tail to Macbeth, he fought a battle for his country. However, the soldiers in the poem are described as beggars and hags, on the other hand, Macbeth is described as brave. Macbeth has a higher reputation because he had killed the enemy of King Duncans. Shakespeare describes the genius of war as if it is a game or a sport doubtful it stood, as two spent swimmers that do cling together using the word swimmer relates to sport and doubtful makes them want to try harder and think of swimming where they are pushing the water away racing to the finish line makes the reader create a picture of Macbeth and Banquo slashing away with their swords creating a sea of dead soldiers and blood behind them fighting their way to glory. It is only at the end of the play that Macbeth finally discovers his fate aft(prenominal) being told that Macduff had been, untimely ripped from his mothers womb. Macbeth describes the witches as Juggling Fiends Macbeth is accusing the witches of deliberately juggling their words so that he could not understand them. This is a clever quote as Macbeth has just realised his life is in ruins, but the audience knew this earlier. The witches have changed Macbeth from a brave warrior to an evil, murderous, traitor, underlining the conflict of good and evil. By the putz of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes this quote is significant as it illustrates the change in Macbeth throughout the play, now even the witches consider Macbeth to be evil. However, when looking at the path of destruction that Macbeth has left behind him it isnt verysurprising. Just one man driven by his ambition to be king has led to a chain reaction of murders. There are many important conflicts in Macbeth, like the conflict in the midst of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, the conflict between the good which is represented by Macduff and the evil which is represented by Macbeth, and Macbeth versus himself, his inner struggle, and all of those conflicts lead to Macbeths down fall. Shakespeare gave a truthful, but interesting effect to show war and conflict in that time and age of S hakespeare. There are also many significant conflicts in the World War 1 which Wilfred Owen wrote about in all of his famous poems, like the conflict between the soldiers and death the way in which the soldiers have to welcome death because its likely they will die. This conflict leads to the soldiers becoming mentally tormented. Owen always revealed the truth about war and conflict.

In the Dream of the Man that was Dreaming, the Dreamt Man Woke Essay Example for Free

In the Dream of the humankind that was Dreaming, the Dreamt Man Woke EssayBy traditional definition, perception is anything that can be known through the five senses. However, this bring up adds another dimension to the idea about perception. It implies that perception is not dictated by the five senses, just by the genius. If a man perceives something, he has either seen it, meetd it, felt it, smelt it, tasted it, or any combination of those. A man knows that a car has crashed because he saw the collision and heard the garish noise. He knows that he likes steak through enjoying its pleasant relish and satisfying taste. In addition, he knows that fire is burning because the nervous system allows him to feel its warmth. However, one usually forgets that it is impossible to use these senses without the brain, which controls each of these perceptions. The quotation serves as a supporting reminder of this idea.Arguably, the dreaming man is able to perceive a dreamt man wak ing up. Yet, he does not necessarily see the man with his own eyes, because his eyelids be shut. He does not hear the dreamt man with his ears he does not feel the man with his hands, and he certainly doesnt taste or smell the man. So how is he able to perceive him? He is able to perceive him because his brain still functions, creating the word picture of the dreamt man waking. Now, the reason why the brain creates the image of the dreamt man is for another paper, about dream interpreting. The quote simply implies that we perceive only what our brain wants us to, and that our brain may even make us perceive what is not human beings. It may be possible that we do not always know what is reality even if it is right in front of us. For example, today might feel like a insentient day, yet it is still about 50-60 degrees F. However, in the winter months of January and February, a 60 degree day may not feel so cold. In fact, it would even feel warm compared to the usual freezing tempe rature. This is because the brain interprets what messages are sent through the nervous system, and it tells the dead body to feel warm because it is used to a colder temperature. Recently, overdue to the sniper shootings, Americas Most Wanted conducted a study which proved that the brain can affect what a source may have seen with his or her own eyes. This is a major cause of the inconsistent eyewitness accounts of the shootings. These are just a few examples that prove that perception is under the complete control of the brain.Perception is practically more than what the body is able to sense it is how the brain interprets the information it receives through those senses. Even while the body is in slumber, the brain continues to interpret and create perceptions. Does the brain have a mind of its own?

The novel is based on the twist in Hazels invigoration when she meets Augustus Waters, a cancer survivor, at a Cancer K id Support group. The story follows the fri restship and comminute of Hazel and Augustus. The two grow to chooseher and share experiences and sleep together for reading making their fri discontinueship and family relationship become more solidified. The romance flourishes after Hazel has a medical issue due to the tumors in her lungs and explains to Augustus that she wants to meet her, and now his, favorite author in Amsterdam. Augustus uses his wish, presumably from the Make a Wish Foundation, to get himself, Hazel, and Hazels mother to Amsterdam. This pilgrimage is the climax in the relationship of Hazel and Augustus. They share their kickoff kiss, and lose their virginities to each other. This is also the tipping point where we originalize that Augustus is dying, Brodie 2his cancer has reoccured and it appears to be incurable. After their trip we quickly see Augustus health go down a downward spiral, his caner getting worse and ventilation throughout his body. The author th en does the unexpected and ends the romance of Hazel and Augustus by having Augustus cancer overwhelm him and finally take his life. Green follows Hazels life after his death showing her grief and her will to live. Augustus death gave her a new perspective on life. Wanting to fight her cancer more. The plot is overall intemperate and hearty thought out.The story is possible, while unlikely that two teenagers with terminal caner would travel to Amsterdam together, but quieten has the realistic nature that gives most people something to mention to. Having two teenagers with cancer fall in love gives the plot not only a twist at the end, but also something that everyone in their lives take care for. It has hope for the people needing hope, love for the hopeless romantics, adventure for the adventure seekers, something for everyone can be found in this book. The characters Hazel Grace, and Augustus Waters, have aspects of their personalities that everyone can relate to.The author John Green specifically designed the characters to be relatable for all ages. Green gave Hazel a strong independent personality who doesnt like see herself as being weak. Green wants to make Hazel a teenager, despite her terminal cancer. Green comments, I wanted to establish that nevertheless because Hazel is sick and dying or whatever, she is still a teenager, and more generally she is still human and developing emotionally at the standard human rate, and not at some wildly increased rate of development thats only available to you if you have incurable cancer. (Questions). Green creates a character that has had things in her life happen that many teenagers will never experience. even so he gives her normal teenager aspects where she does not enjoy physical contact with her mother. Giving her a real teenage Brodie 3 attitude makes her more relatable than a mature teenager who loves her parents and has terminal cancer. While Augustus seems to be the mature teenager who beat cancer , he still has his teen angst common in adolescence. He travels with Hazel against his parents wishes, he lies to Hazel about coming out of remission, and has attitude with a flight attendant when she asks him to destroy an unlit cigarette from his mouth. While many teenagers wouldnt go against their parents wishes especially when it comes to their wellbeing, lie to the woman they love about their cancer, and smoke unlit cigarettes to get across a metaphor, Green makes it clear that Augustus was a real person. He had pain and suffering that he didnt lead on.Green says when asked why Augustus stops hiding his pain towards the end of his life, I am really bothered by the idea that people in pain who are being wrenched from existence should be perpetually cheerful and compassionate about it. (Questions). His point is that some people can only bottle up their pain for so long. This is something many teenagers with depression, and even adults can relate to. Memorability of a book or any form of media is outstanding. Having quotes that can be used in everyday life, and some that are so deep that they make you think about yourself and the marks you leave on the world.Having strong quotes such as, Im in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that were all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only flat coat well ever have, and I am in love with you. (Green, 128). The certain quotes that stick with someone, that initiate emotions, are important in any books. The emotions that can be drawn out of the reader, mainly bringing sadness towards the end when Brodie 4Green does the worst possible thing to his characters by ending the life of Augustus, for some people this can spark intense emotions. Many people say to not read this book in public (Keane) due to the fact that many people have cried. Not expecting the twist endin g, finding yourself floor at the pain the other characters are feeling create an almost physical response from some readers. The effectiveness of a good book are based on the plot, characters, and memorability. While some of these are all based on personal preference it can be agreed that The Fault in Our Stars is, according to Time, an instant classic. Time magazine wrote, (I can see) The Fault in Our Stars taking its place alongside Are You There God? Its Me, Margaret in the young-adult canon. Writing about such an emotional issuing of cancer and on top of that writing about the love and the loss of two teenagers is a strong concept to tackle and release into the public. The words on the pages jump off and overall the book is worth reading due to the intense plot line, relatable characters, and the quotable passages. Brodie 5 Works Cited Bruni, Frank.
